People getting butt hurt over the flag in this thread is ridiculous. People will find anything to get upset about, just sad.

As for the pics you posted. I can only assume the flags on the wall represent all of the storms that platform has survived, that's pretty damn cool.

It isn't "butthurt"...It is people pointing out that it is a technical breach of maritime and flag protocol.

Being that this is a civilian rig, I'm gonna assume that the owner want to demonstrate the flag still flying in a storm as some sort of patriotic symbolism

It was never a drilling rig.

It was a lighthouse modeled after a drilling platform.

I'm aware

I never called it a drilling rig

Or he didn't want to travel all the way out to it just to take a flag down

No flag in inclement weather but flag on in rocket’s red glare and bombs bursting in air. Got it.

Apologies for the small picture but I pulled this from the NDBC website. Here is the location of the "Frying Pan Shoals" where the platform is located

It appears the eye will pass the shoals around 7pm EDT

That howling wind sound is getting more predominant...that's the one sound you never forget riding out a big storm.

They should send someone out immediately to take the flag down!

Actually, though, watching those waves is mesmerizing.
