Why wouldn't there be a cam in all cockpits? Streamed to a server so they can go and look in on things like this
They would send live black box data back to land long before they could send live video. And live black box data would be much more useful information anyway. They do this on most combat military planes now.
The reason it's not done on commercial planes is simply a question of money.

Had to be some newfangled terrorism. Suitcase EMP. Would explain transponder going off, no comm, no signals, and strange flight path. That plane glided into the water quietly with no working electronics.
I don't know.
The size EMP you would need would blow the plane apart to knock out all of the systems. You got to remember, an EMP is a bomb first, so to generate the surge large enough to damage everything on the plane, you would need that level of energy created from the bomb.

Malfunction of the plane.
Trying to turnaround and find the airport without communications. We won't know without a black box.

Also no employee would go for being on camera. Doctors aren't under constant watch when performing surgery.
Most modern oil rigs have a camera just over the driller's head that records and streams 24/7.

Assuming they were conscious at that point.
Also, I think people are making a straight line from the last know transponder location in the South China Sea to the last military contact in the strait. I have yet to see an actual flight path after the last communications contact, just a point at where the military says they last saw them.

It records the drillers himself or the equipment?

I threw out the EMP theory this morning when The Doc and WDE were having a shitfit.

Both.

That job would suck. Recording what I do an monitoring my equipment is one thing. Actually recording me is awkward and creepy.

General question - So if the transponder is turned off does that mean the black box is turned off?
Posted on 3/11/14 at 7:06 pm to RunningBlake
I don't think it's possible to turn black box off.

Doc would have lost all credibility on that one this morning, if he had any to begin with

No, turning off the transponder is a simple flip of a switch. Getting to the black box requires much more work and is normally done on the ground.

It's a high stress environment with enormous consequences if mistakes are made. Sometimes the people that make the mistakes aren't there to tell about it after.

No lie, guess they need to put some cameras on these guys then.
Just heard that the 777 has some sort of ram jet generator that can be deployed in order to make enough electricity to power the basic needs. That is pretty sweet.

Everything you should know about "black boxes"/ Flight Data and Voice Recorders.
Cliff notes.
Very few currently stream live data from plane.
Collects last 25-30 hours of data.
There are no radio beacons transmitted from boxes after a crash.
There is a acoustic pinger (for sonar detection) that activates upon contact with water and will ping underwater for at least 30 days. Nothing else is transmitted from the boxes after a crash.
Has nothing to do with the transponders and cannot be turned off.
Emergency locator transmitter (ELT) beacon is a totally different unit.

Has anyone mentioned aliens again lately? Percentages keep rising.

You need to post this info every three pages. Seems this stuff gets asked over and over and over.
