Has anyone cleared the 27 year old co-pilot of somehow being involved? He is one of the few that would have access to controlling (or attempting to control) the flight in an unintended way. There are several ways he could incapicitate the older veteran pilot who seemed like a normal guy who loved his job.

I think the aggressive ad campaign for a LOST movie deserves at least 1%.

Couldnt they identify it as a commercial liner though? Would they send jets to ID it first and then shoot?

It was pretty far away from any radar

I don't think it was. The Vietnamese radar extends 200 miles into the gulf as does the Malaysian radar. so there should be a point of both radar overlapping.

The human trafficking is not a hijacking. Just coincidence with those two being on board the plane.

I would put shot down at 8% as it's very plausible.

Though Aliens do do a lot of crazy stuff. If they exist.

Why would Vietnam shoot a plane down? They aren't North Korea.

Re-Re-Revised odds:

Blown up and they missed pieces: 65%
Alien abduction: 7%
Landed somewhere off course: 2%
Flew into space: 1%
Crashed fairly intact into water and sunk: 5%
Government conspiracy / cover-up: 9%
The Rapture: 3%
Human Trafficking: 2%
Vietnam Shot down: 3%
Marketing for LOST movie: 1%
Worn Hole: 2%

This list is getting weirder by the hour.

Iran Air Flight 655 (IR655) was a commercial flight operated by Iran Air that flew from Bandar Abbas, Iran to Dubai, UAE. On July 3, 1988, towards the end of the Iran-Iraq War, the aircraft flying IR655 was shot down by the U.S. Navy Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser USS Vincennes when it fired a SM-2MR surface-to-air missile. The airplane was destroyed between Bandar Abbas and Dubai, killing all 290 passengers and crew. It was later determined that USS Vincennes was in Iranian waters at the time of the attack, and IR655, an Airbus A300, was misidentified as an Iranian F-14.[23]

4% IMO.

Move Aliens down to 1%.

I've been spouting the LOST theory for the last day. Never put anything past JJ Abrams.

Hmmm, very plausible then. I wonder what the range is on those surface to air missles.

I am only speculating from some of the info I heard and read and radar was extremely inaccurate at those distances.

Same here. You are right, we are talking probable leftover soviet radar systems too.

They said earlier that once you fly out past 120 miles from land. It can take up to an hour to make radar contact due to planes having to use GPS
