Likely have territories in the area
France owns a few islands in the southern Indian Ocean/ northern Southern Ocean area. I think they are technically part of Antarctica. Some land off the eastern coast of Africa too.

I mentioned the Cocos island theory yesterday.
There is this small connecting info.
On the Southern track. Large North south runways.
If it went south and landed, these two islands are the only ones in range on that track.

Wasn't it an Egyptian flight where the pilot did a nose dive because he was committing suicide? When they got to cruising altitude, the co-pilot announced he was going to the bathroom. The pilot then took the auto pilot off and started diving toward the ground. The other pilot begged and pleaded with him to pull up with him but he just continued to praise Allah as they dived toward the ground.
Close. Pilot goes to bathroom, co-pilot has the plane.
quote:
The cockpit voice recorder (CVR) recorded the Captain excusing himself to go to the lavatory, followed thirty seconds later by the First Officer saying in Egyptian Arabic "Tawkalt ala Allah", which translates to "I rely on God." A minute later, the autopilot was disengaged, immediately followed by the First Officer again saying, "I rely on God." Three seconds later, the throttles for both engines were reduced to idle, and both elevators were moved three degrees nose down. The First Officer repeated "I rely on God" seven more times before the Captain suddenly asked repeatedly, "What's happening, what's happening?" The flight data recorder reflected that the elevators then moved into a split condition, with the left elevator up and the right elevator down, a condition which is expected to result when the two control columns are subjected to at least 50 pounds (23 kg) of opposing force. At this point, both engines were shut down by moving the start levers from run to cutoff. The Captain asked, "What is this? What is this? Did you shut the engines?" The First Officer did not respond. The Captain repeatedly stated, "Pull with me" but the FDR data indicated that the elevator surfaces remained in a split condition (with the left surface commanding nose up and the right surface commanding nose down) until the FDR and CVR stopped recording. There were no other aircraft in the area. There was no indication that an explosion occurred on board. The engines operated normally for the entire flight until they were shut down.
pilot should have picked up the fire extinguisher and knocked the copilot out.

I'm on board with that
I don't think it was crashed. I think it was landed.

My knowledge of this geographical region has improved so much its crazy!
I agree. I know more about Malaysia and it's surrounding geography than I ever learned in school.

I think that is why the pilots hijacked the plane IMO
Now their job is done

Assuming the pilot flew the plane to his suicide, how does one account for the actions of the co-pilot and other crew members? More than likely, they would have known something was not right early on in the flight. Could this really be a scenario of a lone, rogue pilot?

I remember watching CNN talk about a possible hijacking scenario before the Malaysian PM made it official. They said some of the equipment that was turned off was located below decks, thus requiring a second person to physically go down into the hold or wherever this device was located and switch it off. Therefore, if true, two or people would have been required to successfully pull this thing off.

A lot of people are starting to tweet about some Greek vessel finding floating suit cases in the Strait of Malacca.

And here we go...

The pilot of the missing Malaysia Airlines jet is pictured in a T-shirt with a Democracy is Dead slogan as fears emerge he could have hijacked the plane as an anti-government protest.
Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah was a fervent supporter of his country's opposition leader who was jailed for homosexuality - illegal in Malaysia - only hours before flight MH370 vanished with 239 passengers and crew on board, the Sunday Mirror can reveal.
And in a new twist, it emerged that the pilot's wife and three children moved out of the family's home the day before the plane's disappearance.

The person in control of missing Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 issued their last communication to air traffic control after the first set of aircraft communications was disabled, Malaysian authorities have confirmed, adding further weight to suspicion that the plane was hijacked.
The latest revelation suggests that the person who delivered the "All right, good night" message to Kuala Lumpur air traffic controllers just before the Boeing-777 disappeared from their radar at 1.22am and diverted from its scheduled flightpath to Beijing was also aware that the Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System (Acars) had been manually shut down.

The problem with this theory is there are a grand total of about 600 people on those islands. If a Boeing 777 came to town, the villagers would notice. And so would the Australian government.
If that plane took the southern corridor, they're dead, no other options.

Is it possible to dump cargo mid flight? To drop some weight to land on a shorter runway.
