Yeah but I'm sure the pilot of the front plane would've seen him in his rear view mirror and tapped the brakes so make him back off a little.

Most misinformation is the media jumping on every rumor no matter the source. A missing plane, uncoordinated international search efforts in vast open space, and you'll get conflicting reports. Media loves a good mystery though.
