I think the craziest answer is the plane blowing up in midair or crashing anywhere around Malaysia and no one seeing it

You serious? How about the airfield where it landed? It would take many people to keep and maintain a facility like that..Maybe a military type thing? But why would a military with aircraft not just strip down one of their own countries planes and fly it into a building?

It really doesn't have to be that great of an airfield. Just long enough and stable enough to handle one landing and one takeoff. Doesn't need much maintenance, because: one landing, one takeoff. During WWII we created whole airbases by taking tractors, clearing and leveling the needed length, and then snapping together interlocking metal grates to form the surface. You don't even need to pour concrete.

I know what CAN be done, the issue would be it staying a secret and undetectable with today's hundreds of super sensitive satellites.

Dud we find airstrips small enough to land a single engine cesna on in the middle of the AMazon, the whole world is looking for this one!

This needed a repost

quote:

A British man convicted of plotting an Al-Qaeda plane bombing told a New York court yesterday about a separate 2001 plan for a Malaysian pilot to blast his way into a jet's cockpit.
Saajid Badat, who was sentenced in 2005 to 13 years in jail as a co-conspirator in a notorious December 2001 plot to bomb US airliners, has testified about the Malaysian plan before.
But his description of the apparently abandoned plot has a new resonance as investigators probe the fate of a Malaysia Airlines flight that disappeared on Saturday with 239 people on board.

Badat told US prosecutors at the trial of Osama bin Laden's son-in-law on Tuesday that he was given two shoe bombs, one which he took to Britain and the other which he gave to a Malaysian cell.
He believed one bomb was enough to bring down a jet, he told the trial by video link from Britain, but the bomb he gave the Malaysian was intended simply to help him breach a cockpit door.

Yeah I think if there were some large-scale plot going on, our intelligence would know something. They'd have been able to put together the pieces by now.

I agree with you that it's hard to know what possibilities to exclude simply because the Malaysians are morons.

However, if the Wall Street Journal's Rolls Royce sources are to be believed, we can cross out catastrophic disintegration/explosion at altitude and suicide/pilot error plunge into the sea because they claim it kept flying for 5 hours. That leaves hijacking and hypoxia as the two possibilities.

Has anyone plotted out on a map where 5 additional hours of flight would put the jet? ie. if it was hijacked and taken to a location, what places would be approximately 5hrs away at cruising speed?

Go to the point where they lost contact (and at this point we don't know if that info is real), go out another 2500 miles and draw a 360 degree circle from that point....pretty big area.

if it was hypoxia there is no reason for the plane to fall off of the radar like it did

im sure this has been mentioned but I just heard about it this morning....

Agree and I'm too lazy to do it... But how many of those points are over land? I would think almost anything South and East would be over the Pacific.

I still think it will come back as a catastrophic failure and the data is all wrong... Thats the most logical explanation, but it is interesting to speculate on other possibilities.
