Not really true. Not at at least one of the big ones
There may be a few that don't have the policy. There are also a few that implemented the no nepotism policy recently, so you will find some firms with family members that were hired before the policy was implemented.

Right but you said even if you're number 1 you won't get a look.

If the firm has a no nepotism policy and your parent works there you wont. If it's a family friend then that's a different story, but the connection will only take you so far.
Like I said, it may get you in before a few students with marginally better grades, but it isn't getting you a job over the top 10% if you are down in the 30s or 40s.

That doesn't mean that their parents can't call up a friend at another big firm and get their kid a foot in the door,
kind of going round and round here, but that's essentially the same thing, overall it happens, and IMO, dilutes the quality, with the exception of that the "name" might be enough to get business(and turn it over to competent lawyers, did I just type that?,)get a ruling, intimidate people, etc., much the same way politicos post election/term are hired by these type firms, they won't be doing the law, they'll be throwing around clout

I agree, and it may happen sometimes, but it isn't nearly as much as people like to believe.

my gf at LSU was in law school while I was in undergrad, her younger sister was in about the 8th grade I think, the family was all lawyers, not one of the huge firms, but a real good practice, they broke ground on a new office building including offices for those two girls while the gf was an L1
they had other attorneys from outside they family too

It's much more prevalent at the mid size and small firms for sure.

what's funny is the gf did smoke law school, top of the top(almost) but never considered anything but practicing with the old man, for a few years at least

I knew this thread was coming along soon.
Anyone on the inside (graders or examiners or Supreme Court justices) know the passage rate yet?

All those fingers hitting F5 tomorrow in the hopes they're in the 50% that pass, despite the fact that most of them don;t have any job prospects. And of the remaining few that do, most of them won't even make enough bank to repay their student loan payments.

Y'all do realize the market is improving for legal hiring right?

For who? The 20 or so at the top of their classes that pass tomorrow?

You really don't have clue how this works.

Full disclosure, I do have a frickload of loans, and I won't be living large for a few years at least, but I frankly don't know anyone in the top 3rd (Tulane) who had any real trouble finding a job, and we don't even have results yet.
Was it that bad 3 years ago? Oh frick yeah, 2009 was a bloodbath for hiring. But right now it's not that bad if you didn't frick off at school.
