almost a 0% chance... blood doesn't flow in zero G the same way it does here on earth so even achieving an erection would be incredibly difficult, maintaining that erection, pretty much impossible...

and even if you do the unachievable, the mechanics of Newton's 3rd law come into play, so even the act of sex becomes impossible, as the motion of the one counters the motion of the other...

That’s what made me ask the question

Going to need proof of that

Pretty sure you can have an erection in space, since erections technically defy gravity here on Earth.

Supposedly they are more difficult to achieve in outer space, but not impossible. One astronaut said he woke up one morning with one that a cat couldn't scratch and that it hurt it was so hard. LINK

Biggest problem is that you'd have to be tied together or in a snug bag that's velcroed to the wall.

So after reading that, we learned chRxis is just making stuff up to sound smart

I agree sex would be difficult to finish, but it was pretty dumb to claim erections are not possible.

Now the better question would be how would sperm act trying to hunt an egg, and would the lack of gravity impact the ability to impregnate the egg.

this sorta proves my point... you need gravity for correct circulatory flow of blood through the venous system... absence of that gravity, things get don't work quite the same way, since fluids redistribute in the body, which is almost certainly the reason for the hard on in that astronaut...

per a study on the subject:
A low gravity or zero gravity environment can have a detrimental effect on the human cardiovascular system. It is also reported that astronauts will lose upto 22% of their blood fluid volume, and because the heart will have to work less hard, it will begin to atrophy. This will cause low blood pressure and other related conditions. Interestingly, a microgravity environment can cause blood to pool / collect in the upper body, causing facial edema and other side effects.

having low blood pressure is not exactly conducive to getting and maintaining erections

never said getting an erection was not possible, said it would difficult... MAINTAINING an erection would be very, very difficult, almost impossible...

Evidently not impossible.

i'm sure that fluid redistribution, which occurs quite frequently in zero G and is responsible for increased intraocular and intracranial pressure, as well as edema, had something to do with it, not necessarily increased blood flow to the corpus cavernosum..

So he was wrong about his cock being hard?

I may sound silly, but I don’t think that I would mistake my penis being erect.

no, but i'm saying that it's being attributed to the same mechanism that your dick gets hard on Earth, in gravity, vs. what possibly happened, which is fluid redistribution, which happens very easily and frequently, in zero gravity...

an erection is a result of quite a few different messenger molecules, mainly nitrous oxide being released from penile nerve cells which increase cGMP production, in erectile tissue, which then decreases intracellular Calcium, and that, in turn, decreases smooth muscle contraction leading to an erection...

just b/c the astronaut had a hard on doesn't mean that the above process played out... it very well could have been, like it does in other places in the body in zero gravity, extracellular fluid, which increases in zero gravity basically filling the spongy tissue of the corpus cavernosum, like a water filling a balloon... however, if the above process doesn't play out, you cannot maintain an erection... in fact, most ED meds are targeted for an increase in cGMP by blocking its degredation by phosphodiesterase 5...

You dont get extra points for doing it in space. Its still only the mile high club.

Those two women were sort of hot especially in their spacesuits.

This was a private spaceflight. I’m pretty sure SpaceX did extensive experimentation for their benefits.

Come on, it’s Elon musk. It is certainly possible.
