ETA: And do I really need to point out that so many here are overemphasizing a football game?

Sure they are, but the dude specifically said he was looking at the bye week, obviously because he and/or his wife don't want to conflict with a game. So, that's a concern to them, and they are really the only two that matter.

I wouldn't miss a wedding for a close friend or family member for a game, but there might be some resentment over the scheduling

A distant friend or cousin and I'm probably gonna skip

Yep, Friday weddings are standard for Catholics in the Baton Rouge Diocese. OP, like others have said just pick the day that works best for you and your bride. If someone skips because of a football game you probably don't want them there any way.

We got married in June, which is prime fishing time. OP needs to realize you aren't going to please everyone so you damn sure better keep your wife happy. The only other person that should have any sway would be the person footing the bill.

He moved away a few years ago to a state that doesn't care about cfb and he let his fiancé make all the decisions.

Some guy had a story on here about how a bride to be was crushed when her on-campus wedding was going to get steamrolled by the South Carolina game getting moved to BR. I wonder how that turned out. Anyway, yeah, the entire world will schedule their weddings that weekend.

We had our wedding on Fri night before a big game. Wedding was well attended friends and family indicated that they enjoyed the pregame party atmosphere

I recommend the Friday night wedding over a Sat wedding during football season.

As others have mentioned if attending LSU games is important to you then make sure to set expectations that anniversaries will be spent in Tiger Stadium.

This has worked for me over the past decade to include the torrential thunderstorms against Fresno State.

And yet people still go to weddings over football games. Maybe the games aren't as important as you think they are when it comes time to actually make a decision.

Yes, people still go because they're obligated to go. But in this day in age; the majority of them are pissed & will be checking scores on their phones or the TV somewhere at the reception. So, the bride's gonna be pissed because she's woman anyway. But in the end, why would you want to put so many people in that position???

In the South, especially in/around college football heavy populations you are messing with people's big plans & money already spent or budgeted-if you're inviting or including them in your Fall wedding.
Season tickets, tailgaiting, etc. people plan & look forward to those 6-8 Saturdays (generally speaking) for the entire year or years in advance.

People really need to quit being selfish with their weddings vs. people's time (particularly in the football religious south). fricking elope, bother NO ONE & go about living your life/marriage. The people that show up only do so for the food, booze, nice pix to upload to their social media, oh & to judge you/bride on how gaudy/tacky your wedding is (people are dicks, especially women).

Your wedding is NOT that important or special to anyone else, outside of you immediate family & even then that can be suspect.

Save the money, buy a house, stay or get out of debt, build savings for retirement or college for your kids. A wedding is 1 of the most massive losses of an investment you can make.

Do you really not see the irony in calling other people selfish when you're trying to dictate when other people should have their wedding? Who exactly do you think you are?

You call it irony I call it consideration for other people's time & money.

A wedding is NOT that big of a deal. Practically everyone does it. It's like a kid's 1st steps, word, graduating Kindergarten.

Not to mention, with divorce rates as they are, odds are good they'll get married again. Hopefully the next time will be either Jan - Aug or they'll elope.

Look, I have been in plenty of weddings, attended plenty, & for years worked more than I'll ever remember. Maybe I'm desensitized. I've picked up along the way is that they're all the same, no one really wants to be there (besides a hand full of women & the grandparents), & they're a tremendous WASTE of money.

Don't you think if people expect you to attend their wedding and bring a gift, that you should show some consideration in scheduling it? I mean otherwise just go down to the courthouse and get married. It only takes two people to get married. If you want to have the big wedding and reception and all the hoorah, don't schedule it during football season and such in Louisiana.
