Same thing occurred at one of my clients. They have to take 2 weeks of PTO within the next 6 weeks. My client is also supposedly losing millions dollars per week...

ETA: If it wasn't clear my client is a healthcare system in another part of the country.

They’re losing 500 million per quarter. The issues are that no one is going to the doc anymore. No hiring. No lab work.

I heard a guy on the radio today saying that some hospital systems make something like 50-60% of the cash doing elective procedures. I may be off on my figures, but it was a huge amount.

Probably 90% of hospital PROFITS are on outpatient stuff

They are happy if they can even break even on the inpatient side

Ochsner has more money than they know what to do with.

The way it was explained to me is that PTO dollars are basically in an "escrow" account (don't know the exact terminology that is used in these businesses), so if you force employees to take PTO, your operating expenses greatly decrease.

The reason for the lack of funds is that hospitals currently have a fricked up case mix (I would assume the vast majority of these cases that are being admitted are medicare or medicaid cases which have shite reimbursements).

So the government told us all to stay home and not look at anyone to prevent the healthcare system from being overwhelmed and is, in the process, bankrupting the healthcare system.

That’s not true. They buy more hospitals.

I'm assuming the taxpayers are ultimately going to foot the bill for this.
