The microwave may have been the most time saving thing ever, but led to incredibly shitty eating habits.

It's because the public can't shame them anymore. They might get offended.

Too much fast food and too many sodas, not enough exercise.

I’m a high anxiety type guy so I stress a lot over nothing. When I stress, I eat next to nothing. I don’t think it’s stress.

Is it wrong now when i watch social media videos where there are large crowds that i start comparing how many overweight people there are to not overweight people? The answer especially in the U.S. is usually more overweight people.

1. Inactivity. Go workout, bust your arse.
2. Lack of portion control. Restaurants have gone nuts. Don't get seconds.
3. Everything is high carb or sat fat. Eat lean proteins. Skip rice and potatoes.
4. Lack of fruits and vegetables. Get some fiber dammit.

Some generally bad advice here, other than the potato comment.

Your post is the first reference I’ve seen to alcohol. I think this is a significant cause in adults being overweight. It packs a punch with tons of sugar and calories, impacts quality sleep, and limits one’s will to exercise.

I’m having to put down the bottle as I have put in 20 lbs since Covid and can tell my blood pressure is becoming a problem

It's the type of food we eat, along with the frequency in which we eat it.

You can eat shitty food, but you need to fast with it. I've lost weight doing the one meal a day routine. When I get to eat I can have whatever I want.

The other benefit is my acid re flux went away when I fasted.

I know I still should eat better quality food, but the method of fasting works in regards to weight loss/sustainability.

Yep, just eating "right" isn't going to fully benefit you. Some people are afraid of activity though.

Do you think drink more today than they did in the 1950s? I haven't read any studies but I'm guessing those fedora-wearing motherfrickers would laugh at our alcohol consumption.

So does burning a few hundred extra calories a day.

And it doesn't have to be a formal exercise regimen. Buy a push mower, paint your shed, change your own oil.

It’s all relative. Its not how others perceive it, only If it’s real to them. Looking for danger is an evolutionary adaptation. If there is no apparent danger, then one may make it up.

I rarely eat more than once a day, and never do multiple meals during the week. Coffee in the morning and a decent meal at dinner time

no soft drinks but a good bit of beer, no processed or pre-assembled food, just fresh ingredients and I eat whatever of that I want. When we go out to eat I’ll order whatever looks good. I weigh the same at 56 that I did at 26.

obesity is 100% self inflicted and ill not be convinced otherwise. I stopped in to a gas station in the LP to grab beer the other day, one of those with the krispy krunchy chicken counters (great chicken no doubt). At a table near the door there where two morbid fatasses, husband and wife each well over 300, shoveling fried food into their maws. And shoveling is not hyperbole...both cheeks full and ranch sauce all over their faces. It was disgusting, they are disgusting, and I have no sympathy for them. I want fat people away from me and I’ll move out of this shithole as soon as I can.

Fat people...you don’t have to live this way. Life is immeasurably better when you are not obese and that’s an indisputable fact

Completely agree. The difference between now and previous generations is that it has become socially acceptable to be fat.

When I was in high school (90's), I exercised and ate right so I would look good in a bathing suit. Call it superficial, whatever, but I wasn't going to be fat at the beach. Period. I viewed fatness as a lack of self-control or ability to push back from the table. Gluttony used to be frowned upon.

Nothing on the planet tastes as good as skinny feels. Eat to live, don't live to eat. It's all about balance.

People today have no self-control or ability to regulate their desires. Zero conflict resolution. No feeling of shame in anything they do. We have reached the pinnacle of the YOLO mindset. Nothing matters...just love who you and what you love.

The AMA has adopted a rabidly anti-masculine agenda and it is clearly reflected in their weight guidelines for height and age. By their standards every linebacker in the NFL and a fair number of running backs are obese. That's not to say that Americans aren't fat and getting fatter or to deny that it is a serious problem, just that these standards are pure bullshite. In my bare feet I'm just under 6'2 and today I weigh 232 and wear size 36 jeans. Which is exactly on the nose for obesity. I'd put my ideal weight at just under 220. They put it at 168. At 190 I look I'm on drugs, (trust me, I've done the research). At 168 I'd look like I've been vacationing at Bergen-Belsen.

CLIFFS: "Fatness" is 100% self-inflicted and a major health problem in this country but "obesity" in modern usage has become as empty and meaningless a term as "racism". frick the radicalized AMA on this and every other issue.
