What makes someone transgender; medical diagnosis?
It's a choice you make based upon which gender you want to feel like at the moment you are pushing on the bathroom door.

Where were transgenders using the bathroom before all of this?
Whichever bathroom they wanted to. Which is why there was a massive outbreak of transgender sex crimes in the past few years.
oh wait that never happened
This argument that people keep making about transgenders committing sex crimes COMPLETELY misses the point. The problem is that once this is all in effect, anyone who tries to stop a man from going into a woman's restroom will now be legally obligated to allow that to happen. The true sex offenders (the majority would not be transgenders) now have license to enter women's restrooms without someone being able to question or stop them. You think that's a good idea?

It does feel like that. I have a 15 year old son. I am not as worried about the Trans boy/girl whatever going into the boys bathroom or locker room. Boys are different.
At 15 he probably would not mind if a girl is in the locker room with him no matter what she identifies with. IT is a girl in the locker room he might get to see something. I know that is how we would have been back in the day.
Most girls are not trying to sneak a peak at boys, I know now days it is different, but still boys are more likely to do this than a girl.
I would not feel comfortable at all with any boys being in the girl's locker room if I had a daughter.
I feel for all of the other kids that just became discriminated against by forcing them to share a bathroom with a transgender person.

want to hear from a liberal on here that supports this. Give me one damn good reason as to why this should be allowed please.
I'm very conservative and have no problem with this as long as the child involved has a verified medical diagnosis. Women restrooms have stalls so no privacy issues there. In men's rooms female identifing as male physically has to use a stall so again no privacy issues. The verified medical diagnosis hopefully filters out the pervs.
If a kid can just walk into restroom of choice this will cause issues.

You need a medical diagnosis you transphobic frick? How dare you? Do I need to see a medical diagnosis before you enter the bathroom? No. So you don't need a medial diagnosis because choosing my gender is not a medical problem it is my choice and you should shut the frick up and accept it. The thought that I need to go to a medical doctor to appease you is discriminatory and frankly you should be fired from your job and forced to undergo tolerance seminars.
The fifteen year old boy said as he walked into he women's lockeroom naked with his buddies to wait for volleyball practice to end.
Do you see how this works?

and why does no one ever worry about boys in these situations?
Are you just that dense?
We're discussing the behavior of pubescent children.
A pubescent boy(feeling like/identifying as/claiming to be a girl) goes into the girls bathroom to get his perve on: girl's will be offended, feel insecure, and unsafe.
A pubescent girl(feeling like/identifying as/claiming to be a girl) goes into the boy's bathroom to get her perve on: boys will be trying to hit that in the bathroom.

a trans chick?
if a boy tries to hit on a trans chick, does that make that boy gay?

This is not the "slippery slope," this is hitting the bottom of the slope. This is the kind of thing we were told was impossible ridiculous fear-mongering 15 years ago.

they should be happening all the time, right?

Obama is telling schools they can't put this "burden" on them. From the OP...
quote:
The Obama administration letter will say schools may not require transgender students to have a medical diagnosis, undergo any medical treatment, or produce a birth certificate or other document before treating them according to their gender identity.
quote:
Women restrooms have stalls so no privacy issues there. In men's rooms female identifing as male physically has to use a stall so again no privacy issues.
Bathrooms are bad. But the real problem is going to be the locker rooms.
quote:
The verified medical diagnosis hopefully filters out the pervs.
Again, schools can't do this per Obama's imperial edict.

Salmon, nobody is discussing trans people as the problem. We're talking about perverts that will take advantage of the loophole this is creating.
Now, pull your head out of your arse and rationalize like a big boy.

It's a non issue. If you take all registered in the united states, that's .02% of the population of which only an estimated 2.7% will commit another sex crime. That's negligible to the extreme. Any broad laws passed to address a potential problem that small is just STUPID.
ETA: The amount of transgender people is even smaller with most estimates coming in at below .01% of the population even in liberal states like California.

right, I get that
but my only contention is, is it really something to worry about? should we worry more about this, than say, a pedo in a boys bathroom?
how often would this scenario actually happen?

They already had a sex offender take advantage of the Target bathroom policy.

What's the percentage of trannies again?

Excuse my language, but how in the frick does handing down a mandate that applies to maybe 1% of the population make society any better?
The incessant need for this administration to pander and cater to a very very small minority groups is such a joke. But then to make drastic changes to appease a seriously troubled and mentally unstable minority is beyond moronic.

Why not just make single stall bathrooms? One person at a time, like a line of port-o-potties.
