The search for victims of a deadly fire that engulfed a warehouse in Oakland, Calif., entered its third day Monday as the death toll grew to 36. Investigators said during a news conference that they expected the number to rise; however, recovery efforts were halted due to unstable conditions inside the building. So far, about 70 percent of the warehouse has been searched. “We absolutely believe the number of fire fatalities will increase,” Oakland Fire Battalion Chief Melinda Drayton said.

Toll up to 36. Only 70% of building cleared due to structural issues.

Article on owner and place

Oakland has a lot of women running things. I like that mayor.

I just about had a heart attack reading that article. My brother lives in Oakland and is very much into the artist scene. Sounds like something he would go to. Just tried calling him...no answer. Luckily was able to reach his gf on fb and verify they were not there and are ok.

Never watch footage of the Rhode Island fire.

I am pretty tough mentally and can watch a lot of gruesome shite and not really be disturbed, but I watched live camera footage of the Rhode Island fire and that shite still haunts me today

Alameda County Sheriffs Office Sergeant J.D. Nelson says the building is not safe enough to enter. He also says the coroner's office is preparing for 40 or more bodies. No bodies have been removed from the building. Nelson says this is the largest mass casualty they have prepared for since the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake.

Damn. Condolences to the victims' families.

Looks like it was an EDM/electronica show. Given the location, didn't think this would be a white thing.

Horrible shite

So it was a rave in a warehouse?

25 missing might mean that 25 people escaped and went home and are safe.

From the article

quote:

Fire tore through an Oakland warehouse converted into artist studios during a late night dance party Friday night, killing at least nine people, and officials said Saturday that the death toll could rise as high as 40.

One of my biggest regrets was watching that video. You don't get those screams out of your head.
