-Not allowed a pet
-Had a pet without telling management
-Management was cool in letting you keep said pet, but will charge you for having said pet when your lease is up
-You got nothing

Oh, you mean written notification like the fricking lease you signed?
Step 1: It's in your lease. You don't know your lease and broke the terms of it. You're an idiot.
Step 2: ??????
Step 3: Profit!

It's the threads that get away from people that are the most fun.

Nah I anticipated this. I'm just hoping for a saving grace and exploring my options lol. I never said I wouldn't pay.

It's a shame when people don't read legal documents before they sign them

If your lease specifically states no pets, that was your warning.
Unless you have some funky lease language, you're probably SOL.

Your story should simply be: walking someone else dog that was visiting during the day/night. Just like everyone has human visitor's who do not reside or stay overnight. And if they question seeing you morning or evening, or both: night shift/swing shift so your day/night schedule may be other than standard 9-5 M-F.
Could even claim gf dog kept in her car when she came over for a few hours, you felt sorry for it and would walk it to make sure it was OK being out in the car.
Better have that Apt clean as a whistle though when they do the walk through.
Bottom line: Deny, they were not inside your apt to know if dog stayed, came/went, if it even entered your apt. If you already fessed up, you screwed yourself.

How do you know they weren't in the apartment?
I'm CERTAIN they have right of entry.
Maintenance men can be quite the tattle tales.

We need pics of the aforementioned girlfriend in order to provide sound, anonymous, internet forum legal advice.

No pics, but it was worth the potential trouble with management.

You think you have problems? One of my tenants signed a no-pet lease then I see him walking a dog waiving at me; kinda rubbing it in my face.
So, I charged him the pet lease rate but only starting the day I saw him with a dog. I didn't think it was fair to go all the way back to the beginning of the lease.

I would recommend seeing a lawyer officially and not listening to what is being posted here. There may be several issues that could be raised in your case, depending on the lease agreement. Take your lease to a lawyer, pay him what he charges to look at it (many lawyers do free initial consultations) and get a real answer. Rant legal advice is free, and worth every penny you pay for it.

You need a lawyer to read a lease agreement? Some people are sensitive or allergic to animals or animal smells. Regardless of how much the dog was in there, they'll likely have to do some extra cleaning if someone moves in and notices it.

he manager says that's fine, but now they're going to charge me for a pet that they noticed I have
Can they prove it?
If not, tell them to get fricked.

Dispute it in writing for the reasons you state.
If they refuse to budge, pay without issue.
Go by later after moving out and generously apply roundup to lawn and shrubs, install concrete in drains, etc until you've gotten your money's worth.
