my Dad was part of the team that selected the landing site, so ya it was a big deal. Remember watching it on tv, and we would watch launches on tv at school whenever they happened.. Had patches for every Gemini and Apollo mission and some of the Skylab missions.

My dad worked for Lockheed from late 50s to early 70s in Cocoa Beach. I met all the original 7 when I was a young kid, and we got to sit in the viewing room of Mission Control for a lot of missions. We walked alongside the transporter moving the Apollo 11/Saturn V to the pad. He was a range safety officer. I walked up to Gus Grissom at Fat Boys BBQ (I think it was named that) for his autograph... must have been 5 but still remember it now.

I was six, just about to turn seven. Remember being glued to the TV in absolute awe of the astronauts. They were still daredevil bad asses back then.
