Taste of the wild. High prairie canine formula. But, I have a GSP. Took me a while to find something that made him shite hard and keep his coat oily. Blue buffalo worked well but dried his coat... I went through purina pro plan, wellness, wellness core, organix, blue buffalo... And settled on this.

This is what I feed my GSP as well. No complaints at all.

FYI... I just got off the phone with McFaith Feed & Pet Supply on Paris Ave. They carry Victor food, it's $35 to $38 for a 40 pound bag depending which one you get.

Taste of the Wild for my Boykin and Labkin.

One thing to consider when people complain about the price of the food: My labkin eats 2 cups of food everyday (8 months old, 30-35lbs) while a buddies labkin from the same litter eats over 3 cups a day of some "less expensive" dog food.

In the end I pay only a little bit more per meal for my dog and he poops a lot less...

Got him when we was 2 and he was fed Eukanuba Pro Plan Shredded Chicken, but I weened him off onto Blue Wilderness. His energy level, coat, and overall health has skyrocketed. When i take him out hunting now he is a monster out there compared to the other hounds.

Yeah I pay $47.95 for a 30 lb bag of Taste of the Wild. My Mastiff eats 4 cups a day, but the bag lasts me approximately 1.5 months. I could save a little bit of money each month by going with the cheaper food but at the expense of her allergies and health. I'm fine with paying a little bit more.

Victor has a website, go there and search your location...I looked and there a few places in your neck of the woods that are official suppliers...McFaith feed and pet supply? Familiar with them?

Try the performance formula, that's what my supplier says is the most popular and it seems to have a good mix of protein and fat (24 and 18 I believe)

well that settles it. you're a frickin expert.

so while cleaning kennels in college you met sales people who were out trying to promote their product? And based on that experience coupled with
quote:

I'm not a specialist.

you can authoritatively say

quote:

Vets don't get nearly the education on nutrition some think. Pet nutrition specialists (like dieticians for people) know what is idealfor your pet. Also, beware when vets recommend food: like doctors and certain medicines, some vets get incentives to push certain foods from the larger dog food companies.

Right, because DVMs dont ever have to study animal nutrition. What exactly do you think they cover in vet school? You think maybe, just possibly the vet is equally well-versed in animal nutrition? Do you have any idea how many CE hours vets are required to have? think some of the vets go to various manufacturers for seminars on pet nutrition? Ever think the food manufacturers you are knighting for have the same goal and motivation as Purina, Hills, or any other "big" producer? As for "pushing" a certain product, no reputable vet is selling a product at the expense of the client. it would be practice suicide. You must work for ABC News.

Anything with by-product is terrible for your dog. And that just eliminated 90% of the brands on the market.
