SEATTLE — After conducting a yearlong search for a second home, Amazon has switched gears and is now finalizing plans to have a total of 50,000 employees in two locations, according to people familiar with the decision-making process.
The company is nearing a deal to move to the Long Island City neighborhood of Queens, according to two of the people briefed on the discussions. Amazon is also close to a deal to move to the Crystal City area of Arlington, Va., a Washington suburb, one of the people said. Amazon already has more employees in those two areas than anywhere else outside of Seattle, its home base, and the Bay Area.
Amazon executives met two weeks ago with Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo in the governor’s Manhattan office, said one of the people briefed on the process, adding that the state had offered potentially hundreds of millions of dollars in subsidies. Executives met separately with Mayor Bill de Blasio, a person briefed on that discussion said. Long Island City is a short subway ride across the East River from Midtown Manhattan.
“I am doing everything I can,” Governor Cuomo told reporters when asked Monday about the state’s efforts to lure the company. “We have a great incentive package,” he said.

As a current Arlington homeowner, I'm torn. 1, My current place would instantly skyrocket in value 2. I'd never be able to afford even a shanty again. Arlington home prices are already Bay Area absurd.

Shocked that NYC is being considered. Such an expensive place to do business.

Lmao.
I’m other words, we won’t be held hostage again by a state legislature who actually puts into practice the kind of policies we promote. Now we have options.

Yeah I have a feeling this is probably a part of why Dallas didnt get a piece of the pie. Especially if South Dallas was a part of the courtship. That areas "leaders" will f up a wet dream.
I would love to see how much the economic impact has been determined for all the incentives, and if internet sales tax is being comped or a new burden for the amazon customers of NY and VA.

Not too surprising. I still thought Hotlanta was going to get it, but New York and especially D.C. isnt too surprising.

Two shitty locations and the promise of 50k jobs to boost the economy now seems like a slimy way to see who would grovel the most through tax breaks, etc.

The CEO is pretty political, wonder if blue states have anything to do with the selection.

If you want to spend a fortune for a small place.

Yesterday morning it was Dallas, DC, NYC for one spot. Then later in the day it went to split. Would think splitting it up regionally would have Dallas an upper hand. Just find that interesting. DC I get as one of the slots. Wondering if NYC had a "counter" if they didnt get it that made it simpler for amazon to get go there.
From a business perspective sux Dallas didnt get it. From a political perspective I'm glad Dallas didnt get it. we are getting enough lefty impact from all the people from liberal states moving here. Needing a break

What was really funny was those delusional enough to actually think Louisiana stood a chance in the race. Seeing them post seriously about why Amazon should come to Louisiana....pure gold comedy
