I'm talking about the old open top WWII-Vietnam era military jeep.
Like the 1947 Willys Jeep I linked that is being sold on Gov Liquidation right now? Yea they obviously don't auction those off anymore.

Yea I know and that's what I was saying earlier. There's a shitload of disclosures you sign and agree to once you place a bid or even register for a bid number.
Posted on 5/18/16 at 7:16 am to Darth_Vader
Maybe the government stopped selling WWII Jeeps because they stopped using them something like 40 years ago?

Gotdamn you proving me wrong on something is so damn important to you.
Look, I guess it's possible they've started selling them again. All I know is back in the early 90's I remember seeing them atcAnniston Army Depot taking old jeeps and using a torch to cut them in half. When I asked a sgt why they were doing this he said it was so they could not be driven by civilians because they'd been deemed dangerous and the govt was stopping auctioning them off.

They were doing the same thing with HMMWV's for a while because they weren't allowed to sell them to civilians. Now they auction them off.

IMHO, because NYC thinks it is important enough to rule the whole country. That whatever is the law in NYC,should be the same in the entire U.S.
Posted on 5/18/16 at 7:40 am to Darth_Vader
Actually, they auctioned off all the old WWII jeeps, but the later Korea- vietnam era ones with independent suspension, those were pretty dangerous to drive, you could flip one very easy. M151s
You hardly ever see one of those anymore.

I say the same thing about the illegally imported cars they crush. Makes no sense to crush a quarter million dollar car. The guy working the crusher could sell the engine out of it and make his yearly salary.

why did this logical explanation get downvoted? damn people who are wrong just vote down rather than admit they are wrong. lol

Common sense has been removed from public policy.
Who are these fricks and what happened to their sensibility?

yeah, I've never seen that one before. The old Willy's ones I know where two are now.

My first very first vehicle was a wilyys wwII jeep. I got it when I was 12 years old and I still have what is left of it,but it is out in the woods and hasn't moved in about 38 years. My Dad bought me that when I asked for a dirt bike.
When I first went into the service, I drove 1 of the M151s quite a bit,it rode better and was faster, but it could be dangerous, and they were getting phased out.

1. Talk out your arse about something you have no clue about.
2. Change your argument a little, because someone disproves the first one.
3. Change it a little more, because someone disproves it again.
4. Change it even more, because you'd rather get in than cycle than to state that you really arent knowledgeable about this subject.
5. Generalize your statements, because changing it is not working very well.
6. Blame the other guy that is trying to provide correct information to keep the rest of the board from repeating your stupid shite.
By chance, are you a fat *****?

It's sad you you actually took the time to type out all that stupid horseshite over something so trivial.
Posted on 5/18/16 at 8:41 am to CtotheVrzrbck
Because the idiots that ride them in NYC cause nothing but problems. #NYCCulcha
I have no problem with it. Wish they would do something similar to the riders.

Because they're "unsafe" vehicles. The government use to auction off old jeeps for next to nothing but later stopped after a number of people wrecked them.
They are unsafe when Honda and Yamaha sells them. They are not illegal outside of NYC.

Here you go, dipshit....
quote:
M-151 Jeeps or HMMWVs
Military vehicles purchased through Government auctions are subject to a "de-mil" requirement (referring to demilitarization). This means that you have to remove certain parts (such as weapons, communications gear) or, in the case of M151 jeeps or HMMWVs, you have to destroy the vehicle. That's right, you have to totally crush and destroy a perfectly good vehicle before the resulting scrap pile can be removed from Government property. The full de-mil discussion is on the linked Olive-Drab.com page.
quote:
Here is what the US Government has to say about surplus jeeps on a DRMS website:
DoD does not sell the M-151 series of vehicles commonly referred to as jeeps. The Department of Transportation has ruled that jeeps are built for off road use and could be unsafe at high speed. Therefore, for public safety, we render them inoperable prior to sale (i.e., cut or crush the unitized body and suspension system). All M151 series vehicles, including jeeps, are unsafe for public highway use. These vehicles are made unusable by removing major components and destroying the unitized body so it cannot be rebuilt. False stories often advise that jeeps are available for unusually low prices. Such stories should be brought to the attention of the DRMS Public Affairs Office, ATTN: DRMS-DB, 74 N. Washington St., Federal Center, Battle Creek, MI 49017-3092.
And there's more...
quote:
Making the same point, this is from a GSA website:
You will not drive away from a Federal Government sale with a military jeep. In 1971, based on safety statistics and vehicle tests, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recommended that the M151 series vehicle not be sold to the public because it is unfit for public use. Therefore, M151 series jeeps cannot be driven. Disposal regulations on the M151 require that the vehicle body be crushed, shredded, or mutilated to prevent the jeep from being rebuilt. Businesses that sell the "secrets" of buying surplus military property often take out enticing magazine and newspaper ads. "Just send $19.95 and learn how to buy surplus military jeeps," they say. However, these advertisements do not tell the consumer that the M151 series is unfit for public use and that older jeep models, such as the World War II M38, are virtually nonexistent today. Jeeps are now typically auctioned at sales for scrap metal or parts.

So, just like I said, the government stopped selling surplus jeeps because they were deemed "unsafe". Again, you tried your best to prove me wrong and you failed.

You guys don't get it. They were infested with bedbugs--the only way to be sure is to destroy them all.
Posted on 5/18/16 at 9:07 am to CtotheVrzrbck
If they really wanted to do it right, they should have used a steel roller. that would really crush them. Or put them in a compactor.
