I never said they were illegal. I only guessed it's possible they're crushing them because, just like the Feds did with the jeep, they deemed them "unsafe" to sale to the public. Do I know if that's why NYC did this? No. Never said I did. Only guessed that it's a possibility.

That's your problem

The Commissioner added that the crushing tactic is inspired by the approach he used to curb drag racing in Los Angeles in the early 2000s. "It killed [those drivers] to see their cars out there in the desert," he said. "We'd lift them up with a crane 100 feet off the ground and drop them."

OK, I guessed wrong about why NYC is crushing those bikes. Happy?

That still doesn't change the fact you were wrong about being able to buy jeeps from the government so I guess we're even.

The "illegal" part was in response to other comments not yours. Those bikes could have been used for parts, etc.

I wasn't wrong. You can't buy that one particular Jeep because it isn't road worthy.

You made a blanket statement that "old jeeps" couldn't be auctioned off anymore and I proved that wrong considering they are auctioning a 1947 Willys Jeep in a link I provided.

Not my fault you paint with such broad strokes and assumptions that we weren't able to guess you meant one particular jeep that was deemed unsafe.

You didn't even know which jeep it was until another posted informed you of it too.

I said the government stopped selling them. I even posted a link proving as much. You posted a link to the GAS website that has just a bunch of modern day jeep vehicles nothing like what I was talking about. That's the only actually government website you posted. I guess you're ignorant of the fact that sites like "governmnetliqidation.com" are private dealers. If you buy something from there you're buying it from a private dealer and not directly from the government. The same is true of "govdeals.com. It's a private website. Just for your information, unless the web address ends in ".gov", it's not a government website. Sorry, but he government does not sell old military surplus jeeps. They just don't. If you find one online, it's not being sold by the federal government, even if the website is designed to fool gullible people like you into not noticing the difference.

Again, you were in such a rush to try and "prove me wrong" that you stepped all over your dick in the process.

Only after someone told you which Jeep. Prior to that, you were using broad strokes like "old jeeps"

My god the hypocrisy in this statement

ETA:

You are a special kind of idiot. You are buying from the Gov. After you win the auction, you have to go to Gov buildings to pick the shite up or military bases but they do sub the selling of it out to private auction firms. Click the links I linked and you will see they all end in .gov with the exception of one but that one says in their details

quote:

Government Liquidation (GL), a Liquidity Services marketplace, is the exclusive contractor of the DLA Disposition Services for the sale of surplus and scrap assets of the United States Department of Defense.

The other one without a .gov addy says

quote:

GovDeals provides services to various government agencies that allow them to sell surplus and confiscated items via the Internet. Each participating agency has its own auction rules and regulations and may be subject to government ordinances.

They are merely a broker earning a commission but the products are from the Government. Know how I know? Because I have bought shite from them and picked it up at Fr Polk and police juror buildings.

You just keep letting me make you look like an idiot in this thread and for that I thank you

I'm sorry you're too stupid to realize I was talking about jeeps likes this from the start....

And not this...

Then again you're dumb enough to not know the diffence between the GSA website and sites like "govliqidation.COM" so perhaps I expected a bit too much from you I suppose.

Key word there being "contractor". As in they're a private entity and anything you buy on their website you're buying from them and not the governmnet.

You're still legally buying it from that broker and not the government you idiot. The government does not sell military jeeps directly to the public. Why is this so hard for you to get this into your thick skull?

BTW. have you ever tried buying a military surplus jeep from them?

No. No one has ever sued any motor company for crashing their vehicle.

You're are either stupid or being purposely obtuse. They don't transfer the title to the broker then to the purchaser. Do you even understand the definition of Broker?

quote:

A broker is an individual person that arranges transactions between a buyer and a seller for a commission when the deal is executed.

Again, I have bought from Ft Polk and other Gov agencies and have dealt with the paperwork and you haven't yet you want to tell me I'm the one that has no idea what they are talking about.

Again, have you bought a military jeep and drove it home? Yes or no?

Let me remind you what the GSA has to say on this....

quote:

Making the same point, this is from a GSA website:

You will not drive away from a Federal Government sale with a military jeep. In 1971, based on safety statistics and vehicle tests, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recommended that the M151 series vehicle not be sold to the public because it is unfit for public use. Therefore, M151 series jeeps cannot be driven. Disposal regulations on the M151 require that the vehicle body be crushed, shredded, or mutilated to prevent the jeep from being rebuilt. Businesses that sell the "secrets" of buying surplus military property often take out enticing magazine and newspaper ads. "Just send $19.95 and learn how to buy surplus military jeeps," they say. However, these advertisements do not tell the consumer that the M151 series is unfit for public use and that older jeep models, such as the World War II M38, are virtually nonexistent today. Jeeps are now typically auctioned at sales for scrap metal or parts.

quote:

DoD does not sell the M-151 series of vehicles commonly referred to as jeeps. The Department of Transportation has ruled that jeeps are built for off road use and could be unsafe at high speed. Therefore, for public safety, we render them inoperable prior to sale (i.e., cut or crush the unitized body and suspension system). All M151 series vehicles, including jeeps, are unsafe for public highway use. These vehicles are made unusable by removing major components and destroying the unitized body so it cannot be rebuilt.

Double down on the stupid and ignore the rest of my post. Good strategy.

The Military hasn't used a Jeep product since 1985 so there's not a surplus for them to auction off. They were replaced by Humvees which can be bought. They aren't going to have any 30+ year old vehicles sitting around to sell.

Your question provides nothing to your argument. Wanna try a different route so I can keep making you look stupid?

That's news to me seeing how I enlisted in May of 88 and saw and used jeeps all over the place in Germany.

They stopped selling them in 1971, over a decade before the Humvee was introduced.

Stupid? You're the dumbass that was just trying a moment ago to prove you can still buy a military jeep direct from the government. You even posted a link to what you thought was a government website showing a 47 Jeep for sale. Now that's I've proven that to be untrue you're backtracking trying to claim they ran out of them years ago. Keep crawfishing.

Maybe used was wrong but the last Jeep products produced for military use were made in 1985. Google it and you will see I am correct. They were probably phased out over a few years but that still means there wouldn't be any left over currently to sell as surplus because the Gov isn't going to keep 30+ year old vehicles to use.

They stopped selling them in 1971,

They only stopped selling that one particular Jeep according to your links.

You have narrowed your argument now to just military jeeps where as this is what you posted earlier.

quote:

The government use to auction off old jeeps for next to nothing but later stopped after a number of people wrecked them.

I posted a Gov entity selling an "old jeep" and you changed what you meant to fit your narrative. Keep moving the goal post, Darth, and you may eventually make yourself look correct.

I have to go take care of some things so I am done because it's evident you are just being obtuse realizing you are wrong yet you don't want to admit it.

Sorry for making you look dumb so early and ruining your day.

Have a nice day!

You said the military stopped using them in 85. For the umpteenth time in this thread I proved you wrong.

What other military surplus jeeps do you think there were?

My argument from the start has been about old military jeeps. Does the government have a huge SURPLUS of any other syle jeep? You're being obtuse to the point of looking like a damned fool.

bullshite. You knew I was talking about military style jeeps being sold by the government from the get go. You even posted a link showing a 47 jeep trying to prove your point. You were just too stupid to realize the jeep you posted was on a private website instead of a .gov website. You knew I wasn't talking about modern Jeep Grand Cherokees or anything similar.

The only person you're making to look dumb in here is yourself, dumbass.

So all of those bikes are paid off and not bank owned? I would think they would allow the bank to repo it rather than destroy it. Like if the bike gets seized from the owner and can't get it back, chances are if it's financed, the owner would default on the payments. Maybe if it's seized by the city, the bank can't get it back...I dunno. Painful to watch nonetheless.

This mother fûcker has got to be trolling.

Darth Vader, are you a troll, an insecure college professor, or a fat bitch? Those are the groups that are the usual suspects when discussions or disagreements go this route.
