No he's alluding to an opinion that suggests they feel subsciously entitled to public spaces.

I figured it was a courtesy to concede space for women in general. A lot of times I'll just stop my forward progress and step aside allowing them to walk past. It's not a big deal.

He should tell fat black women to get the frick out of the way in the parking lot, grocery store aisle, lines at the bank, wherever they can hold up "traffic" they do.
Racists!

quote:
Kaczynski addresses Leftism as a movement (he states that he uses "the term 'leftism' because we don't know of any better words to designate the spectrum of related creeds that includes the feminist, gay rights, political correctness, etc., movements"[72]) and analyzes the psychology of leftists, arguing that they are "True Believers in the sense of Eric Hoffer"[73] who participate in powerful social movements to compensate for their insecurity and feelings of inferiority:
When someone interprets as derogatory almost anything that is said about him (or about groups with whom he identifies) we conclude that he has inferiority feelings or low self-esteem. This tendency is pronounced among minority rights advocates, whether or not they belong to the minority groups whose rights they defend. [However] the leftist is not typically the kind of person whose feelings of inferiority make him a braggart, an egotist, a bully, a self-promoter, a ruthless competitor. This kind of person has not wholly lost faith in himself. He has a deficit in his sense of power and self-worth, but he can still conceive of himself as having the capacity to be strong. But the leftist is too far gone for that. His feelings of inferiority are so ingrained that he cannot conceive of himself as individually strong and valuable. Hence the collectivism of the leftist. He can feel strong only as a member of a large organization or a mass movement with which he identifies himself.[74]
quote:
Some leftists may seem to oppose technology, but they will oppose it only so long as they are outsiders and the technological system is controlled by non-leftists. If leftism ever becomes dominant in society, so that the technological system becomes a tool in the hands of leftists, they will enthusiastically use it and promote its growth. ... In the United States, a couple of decades ago when leftists were a minority in our universities, leftist professors were vigorous proponents of academic freedom, but today, in those of our universities where leftists have become dominant, they have shown themselves ready to take away from everyone else’s academic freedom. The same will happen with leftists and technology: They will use it to oppress everyone else if they ever get it under their own control.

Disparities and injustice lead to racism? Or should be the focal points for addressing racism?
I think actual racism is a minimal issue for everyday interactions of black people. The average person you meet, even the average a-hole you meet, is not racist. Of course, that doesn't mean that race doesn't factor into how we engage, but racial disparities causing differences in interaction doesn't equate to racism.
Institutionally, you can assert that racism is more present, in policing, in hiring, whatever. I think that is exaggerated and not the product of racism either (inherent belief in racial superiority), but I think the argument is better.

The disparities have roots in classism, sexism, racism, bigotry etc. add in some natural free market principles and then we have very intricate problem. Yes the average person isn't going to be racist, but our attitudes and opinions about groups of people different shapes the way we spend our money, interact with the law, and how we vote.
I do think, and we have seen, that explicit forms of racism still sadly exists and based off our history, it's just not plausible to continue to attribute them to incidental issues.
It may be more implicit nowadays but I think this can be even more damaging because it's hard to prove on an interpersonal basis but their are plenty of metrics to support it statistically. The implicit nature of it makes it hard to pinpoint what needs to be fought and address and how.
Plus it's also much easier to deny

Wait.. Since when did black people use sidewalks? They always walk in the damn road blocking cars. Must just be southern thing.

Sure, and that's true on both sides. Race impacts interactions, voting, commercial choices, etc. But I don't think those things are by default, bad, do you?
The fact that black people went out in masse (well, women) to see Girls Trip, while white people went to see something else - Is that a bad thing?

Sure. But, if I'm black, I'm not sure how distressing I find this. The idea being that while a threat to me, it's not a systemic one and it's a mindset that is pretty universally reviled.

This is where we probably diverge. Latent or systemic "racism" is so broad that it can be abused as easily as it can be denied/ignored. Give me a couple of examples where metrics support the existence of implicit racism. I don't deny racism in that form exists, but I bet I'll question whether some of these metrics show racism, or just show racial disparity.

Venezuela is falling apart, Turkey is continuing to feel the effects of the coup, polar ice caps are melting, Flint doesn't have drinkable water and this is what we are concerned about. 8 years of a black president and less people give a damn about interracial dating than ever but more people bitch more about race every day

Not to mention he's probably suffering from confirmation bias. He expects it so he sees it.

Classic confirmation bias.
Also, isn't the famous trope that New Yorkers are rude af? Hell, viewed through THAT lens, the white women in question are the only ones in the goddamn city who treat the author like they do everyone else
