His family suspected he was being mistreated and installed it.

Having represented nursing homes/assisted living, I can tell anyone who’s interested to NEVER put your loved ones in one of these.

It’s not the owners, it’s the caliber of workers they find to fill these jobs, and the fact it’s impossible to maintain oversight on them 24/7. I think we all know who I’m talking about...

I’d hate to see the incidents that go uncovered

You think that's OK? What if that was your dad or granddad in that bed? You'd be fine with his caretakers laughing while he was struggling to breathe?

We've got some real animals on TD. How can anyone downvote your post?

Nobody on the planet would want their loved ones treated this way.

Downvoting clowns must be some miserable human beings. How about you fools explain your downvote. You are fine with folks laughing at your mom as she struggles to breath and slowly dies? If so, DIAF.

The article indicated they all lost their licenses. Thank God.

Without that video, this would have just been another old guy passing away in a nursing home.

I will wade in. ER nurse since 2000. No idea how many codes I’ve been in. THERE IS ZERO EXCUSING THEIR INEPTITUDE AND INACTION. I will start with that. Nursing home nurses in a code are a jumble of shite. Always. What is inexcusable to me are a few things.

1 When was 911 called? If they called immediately they get more leeway. They aren’t expected to do much. It’s just not gonna happen. But the basics of a 911 call for legitimate help is a must.

2. The laugh. I will defend a little bit. Every job becomes a job. I’d hate to see video of me in every code or critical patient care situation. Pretty calloused sense of humor is needed for the job. However, while laughing at something stupid or saying dumb shite I AM DOING something. That excludes pedi codes. Nobody laughs in a pedi code (maybe children’s hospital ER nurses?), and laughing at a conscious victim or patient. I’ve never done that. And this man may have been unconscious at the time they laugh. I’d like to think so.

Where are the lawyers? This is a deposition. I’ve been in one PRE deposition with the hospital lawyers to prep us. This nurse was left out to dry by her facility. Maybe they said “frick them”. As she was being questioned were they aware of the tape? The video is edited so I can’t tell if that was some gotcha moment of questioning. If so, it seems a facility lawyer should have been present to stop the proceeding. Or the nurse was just too dumb to realize she should have her own representation. Maybe she went with her version to her facility risk people and they thought there was no need for lawyers to be there?

Any lawyers help me out. In the end they should all have lost licenses. Mainly for lying. Had they not lied, maybe they keep license with probation and stipulations.

Sadly I would assume many nursing home codes are just like this. And an 8 minute night shift call bell answer is probably very common.

Did anyone ever actually bag the man? She says so but the video never shows it.

Let me add to this that is the behind the scenes to this story and all other nursing home stories. These places charge the patient anywhere from $5,000 - $10,000 a month, depending on the place. It's not a case of, "well you get what you pay for". It really depends on the POS these places hire (and underpay).

My father had dementia and we finally had to admit him because it was too much to take care of him all day long. We (mother and I) admitted him into a place that charged $5,500 a month. That's $66,000 a year. Hope you have a ten million dollar retirement account!

If my dad had been the man he was growing up, he would have had a fricking stroke to know he was paying that much. Anyway, the lazy arse nurses shuffling their feet, ignoring calls for help, eating ice cream and their laissez-faire attitude (which no health care professional should have by the way) - was enough to convince us to pull him out after 1 week and let him stay home with an around the clock sitter. frick these places. To witness the nurses leaving shite and piss all over the patients and rooms is not on over exaggeration. It's a regular occurrence.
