Because there is a HUGE shortage!
Even the largest nursing union in the country disagrees with you. There are over 1 million nurses with active licenses who aren’t actively working. We have plenty of nurses. We have too many nurses that don’t want to work or have taken over admin roles within the ever growing healthcare systems/hospital networks across the country.

There is a short staffing crisis, but a shortage is coming. Healthcare is in trouble no matter what direction you look from. Things are too messed up to fix and it will take something draconian to right the ship. Like abolishing all insurance. Until you remove the suits that stand between you and the people who care for you, things will not ever be ok again.

They don’t wanna work because of the pay lol. Imagine being an ICU nurse working nights managing life saving meds, manage patients family dynamics, and the cherry on top is not everyone is nice to deal with.

My question is why they are shopping Eastern European countries....did the philippines run out?

Starting pay was $31 an hour with a 5-10k bonus for some new grads 2-3 years ago.
In comparison, Lululemon shift managers make $29 an hour.

Does the new University Hospital/UMC draw patients with private insurance/Medicare, or is it just a newer version of Charity Hospital and Hotel Dieu (old university hospital) with a patient population ranging from no insurance to Medicaid at best?
It has a better reputation and attracts insured patients for some of the specialty units. I went with a friend to a follow up appointment after she was transferred from another facility to the burn unit there for suspected TEN. I’ve cared for several other patients who were transferred there in the past for significant trauma or other specialty care.

Was at Kaiser Oakland few weeks back. The amount of security they have out front for the hospital is impressive. The homeless camp across the street at the park across Broadway is even more impressive tho

Oh I don’t begrudge his success one bit. He’s for sure earned it. Just saying that it seems that often these hospital systems are very top heavy with as much administration as care givers.

Is this hospital publicly traded?

Filipinos aren’t coming for 30/hr.
They do make PENNIES in the Phillipines. But they know exactly what they can make and where. They will go anywhere if the price is right. Texas will steal Filipinos just like they will steal LA nurses.

It's what Louisiana does well......and we do it better than anyone else.

Don't come in here with your facts, baw.
Nurses aren't paid enough, especially in Louisiana, that's a fact.
Pay more, and you'll have more nurses.

Unions fall right into the free market landscape. Why wouldn’t they?
