quote:

Portage resident DelRea Good said she did not immediately pull over for the flashing lights behind her because, as a 52-year-old woman traveling alone at 11:21 p.m. on a dark county road, she was concerned for her safety.

Assuming the car behind her was a police officer, Good said she slowed her vehicle, put on her emergency flashers, waved her arm out the window to acknowledge the pursing car and continued for less than a mile where she pulled over into the lighted parking lot at the Kohl's department store in Portage.

The decision not to immediately stop resulted in her being handcuffed and taken to jail by Porter County Sheriff's Department Patrolman William Marshall on a felony charge of resisting arrest.

of course the PD stand by it.
quote:

Porter County Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Larry LaFlower said, "The sheriff's office supports our officer's decision in this matter." He cited state law requiring motorists to yield to emergency vehicles and said Marshall was driving a fully marked squad car and used the lights and siren.

But wait, it's not that simple.
quote:

Portage police issued a warning two years ago after someone using flashing red and blue lights, possibly impersonating a police officer, tried to get a woman to pull over.

Cop was pissed she was smart enough not to get raped. At least she didn't have her dog with her.

Was she booked and processed? Was she officially charged? How long was she in jail? Why was she originally pulled over?

Wonder if he knew she was a nurse when he pulled her over.

Shouldn't have been speeding and all would've been avoided. Play stupid games...win stupid prizes.

I have a feeling calmer heads may prevail on this. It can be a teaching point or a line in the sand. This is exactly how I've instructed my wife and daughters to behave under such circumstances.

Alright Tangerine, I'm with you on this one. Based solely on your post, cop is a dickhead and in the wrong. Have to be a damn good reason for me not to find fault here.

the real question is...what happened after she stopped. I am betting there is a whole lot more to this story than what we are getting here.

Sounds like a bunch of shite to me. A call to 911 to document what you're doing and why would likely have been the better move though. Good luck to her. Hope she slows down, pays her speeding fine and the rest of the bullshite is dropped.
