My grandparents grew up on farms in the Midwest during the Great Depression. I don’t think they were doing much of this.

Same here. I still listen to a lot of my Mom and Dads vinyl collection. Zep, Beatles, Doors, Sabbath, Joni Mitchell. When my pop was 18 he took off and followed Cream around the U.S one summer selling weed (I just assume, but he's never acknowledged it) and T-shirts with his 2 buddies to support their trip.
