“One of the first things that comes mind is objectification and idealization of Western beauty, which are values I would like to believe the University doesn’t want to perpetuate,” she said. “As a student of color who looks nothing like the student in the poster, this feels very exclusive.”
the fact that you had to tryout didn't tip that off, brainiac?
quote:
Said Signe Burchim, a UW senior: “I think it’s really upsetting and kind of disheartening the way it’s basically asking these women who want to try out to perform their femininity — but not too much.” Such a message would never go out to men trying out for a sport, she said.
holy shite
quote:
“And why so much focus on the ‘right’ makeup, hair, clothes and nails for a tryout?”
because the dance team is a visual medium and your aesthetics (especially uniformity) matter
quote:
“When I was a cheerleader we worked so hard to be considered a sport. This infographic goes against what we fought for. We don’t ask the same of any other athletes.
because other sports concepts like uniforms aren't a signal of exclusionary

Most cheerleaders that I've known are petite, taller than a typical gymnast but often similar in build. There's a reason for it.
Yeah, it's called physics.

You had better hope so, or you'll be waking up to a rape claim.

I had a buddy from when I was younger who became a cheerleader guy at LSU, so I met a few of them. They were all built like a middle linebacker, and practiced/worked out 6 days a week

Boom, I knew it, and that's why you use a minority to counter this kind of backlash.
I hate capitulating to SJWs, but if you work in communications there is value in avoiding unwanted attention. Put a white, black, and Asian cheerleader on the poster and you eliminate much of the backlash. A blonde white girl is going to be an issue, which is absolutely ridiculous, but you can see it coming regardless.

for promoting how to look like a cheerleader
That's not even what they're doing. They're just telling girls who plan to try out for the squad what they need to wear to the tryout.
This is the most absurd thing to be angry over that I've ever seen. Literally EVERY SINGLE dance team/cheer tryout on both the collegiate and the professional level has these same requirements. They want to be able to judge based on skill and how they'll look in the uniform. If you are wearing bright colors or something, you'll stand out which will be either an unfair advantage for yourself or an unfair advantage for the other girls.
I swear to god people are so fricking stupid these days.

WTF does this even mean? How does one perform their femininity?

Dem nasty shaggy carpet munching out of shape hairy legged females need to realize you need to be athletic to be a cheerleader.
No need to get their whitey tighties in a wad.

Don't see any blacks (at least among the females) but there are plenty of Asians to choose from.
