The shite storm of ill will and the class action lawsuit is going to outweigh the few bucks they shake out of people.

Someone please snuff out the piece of shite who had this ideas.

Budget problem? Need a flush in BR worse than the one needed in DC. The LA Legis is a joke.

It doesn't matter to the state police. They still get the money collected. Law suit money comes out of the general fund that is meant for education, healthcare, and whatnot.

Are BRPD officers looking at that and thinking they need to step their revenue collections game up?

We just moved back to LA a few months ago and when trying to trade in a vehicle on Saturday were told that they couldn't accept an out of state trade and the vehicle would have to be registered in LA. Wife went this morning to change registration and was notified she had a flag and had to pay over $500 for the "lapse" in her insurance. She left LA in 2007 so it looks like she just missed the 2006 cutoff referenced in a link in the thread.

That being said, since she paid the fine this morning is there any way to possibly get the fine refunded if she were able to get proof of insurance for the time they are claiming or is she SOL? She paid it because she needed to clear it up to finish out the purchase of the new vehicle. Also, I moved to Texas in 2001 so am I going to run into the same issue when I try to get my registration changed over or are they actually keeping their word about not going after the older cases?

Moral of the story: Once you escape Louisiana, don't come back.

To answer the question, I'm guessing SOL.

I received a similar letter and they DMV sent out close to 1 million letters trying to collect some 444 million in owed debt! They set up a special claim review department where you have to send proof that your insurance didnt lapse and wait to hear back. Good luck trying to get anyone on the phone at the DMV, Everytime I called I got a due to high call volume please call again at a later time.

LINK here's a link that maybe helpful.

Part of a Jindal fundraising effort, to avoid raising taxes. Ignore it. How are they going to prove it?
