And the assumption is that everyone has they hand these out to has their own generator with spare outlets and/or 3 extra of the batteries?
No but this gives people with generators or with friends with generators a way to help themselves or their neighbors. There’s no perfect solution in things like this but you throw everything at it and give people some way to move forward.
Something similar happened during Maria, which I was there for. People, NGOs, and FEMA were setting up charging stations for people to come charge phones, power tools, computers, etc. you don’t need a big generator to do this. There were tents set up at the top of hills where there was the most phone service for people to go throw some juice in their phones and make calls or texts. Everyone of those I stopped by also had people bringing power tool batteries to charge up their dewalt battery to run a sawzall, circular saw, etc to clear things off.
These aren’t a replacement for gas chainsaws but they have one unique advantage. A gas saw can run on gas mixed with oil. An electric saw can charge off a gas generator, ng generator, diesel generator, solar, an inverter in your car, the church down the road that has a generator, etc.
The answer is just more tools not less.

Agree.
FWIW, battery chain saws are easy AF for the untrained to use as well.
Battery tools are fine in this application and you can even charge them in a pickup; most have a low amp 120V outlet now.
I guess I'm in the minority, but I'll use whatever I can get in emergency.
Personally, relying on daddy gov for basic crap is candyassesd anyway, but I'm not gonna be critical of what they send.
People are losing the ability to think for themselves and adapt to a tough situation.

How many arborist companies have you seen with battery powered saws?

Put idiots in charge, they do idiot things. Not a surprise.

Arborist have their own equipment. These aren’t for professionals they’re for normal people to use. Even skilled hobbyist will have their own equipment to use. FWIW lineman use electrics all day long.

Jesus, this level of stupidity is astounding
Are they air dropping gas generators?
Where is the gas coming from in your imaginary world?
Why the frick would I wait on a generator to charge a battery when I can use the same fuel to power my chainsaw and get the job done now?!?!
Yeah, let's just forget the massive limitations of battery powered equipment... (which is significant)
What you posted is astronomically stupid!!!
I swear, I hope you are never in a position of power at your job, because you are more than incompetent at a basic level of understanding situations... I mean, just flat out fricking retarded
jesus christ man. Some of you people take this board wayyyyyyy too seriously.

Yeah, because they're basically cutting just limbs and branches away from power lines, not entire trees and it easier for them in a bucket because it's not has heavy, and easier to start....

No shite, and it's usually Stihl gas powered chainsaws..

Exactly. Which these aren’t meant for. These are for normal people to use to do things like

Small jobs that are high priority like clearing limbs from trees on houses to get blue tarps on the roofs are EXACTLY what regular homeowners need to do in the week after a major storm!
Something tells me these saws aren't intended for crews of tree service dudes out clearing highways.
There's a lot of people in these threads that don't have much experience actually having been through a devastating storm as a regular homeowner and neighbor.
Or, just ones that want to fawn some internet outrage while some poor people in North Carolina are probably on their roofs right now cutting limbs with these saws.

Sometimes. Many of them don’t even carry them. Typically that’s the transmission crews. The LDS guys get by with just electrics because it’s easier and gets the job done. At my previous job where we had aerial electric crews I bought thousands of electrics and less than 100 gas. They complained about a lot but I never heard them bitch about the electrics not getting the job done.
We’re getting a bit off topic here though. These aren’t meant for lineman, arborist, or road crews clearing highways. They’re meant for normal people to use to clean up their property as stated above to get tarps on roofs, chop up limbs, etc.

You literally quoted what I wrote and still didn't get my point.

I'd be glad to have one, and let son-in-law use it while I cut with my old Husky.
I keep the pre-mixed fuel on hand. That mixing crap is for the birds.

So you see this, which by all indications is a real picture from a real person on the ground up there, and are immediately able to convince yourself they're wrong and it's untrue and none of the completely logical reasons why this is absurd are true.
Not that at all. There is no way to know that the picture was taken by the same anonymous person who wrote the caption. The picture shows a narrow part of an obviously larger storehouse that contains a lot of stiff, none of which you can see. The caption asserts that there is no electricity but electric lights can be seen in the picture. The caption asserts that the electric chainsaws were the only thing delivered, but the picture shows gas-oil premix, and other supplies.
It's the obvious use of a controlled frame and an anonymously written caption to suggest something that is not verifiable. It's manipulation. You have to ignore what you can see in the image and trust unconditionally the anonymously written caption. And you have decided to go along with that.

What are these “indications” that caused you to believe the pic and description are accurate?
