TL;DR, Ernest Hemingway spent the summer of 1926 quarantined for whooping cough in the same house with his wife, his mistress, and his son's nanny LINK

Earnest led possibly one of the most interesting lives ever. Listen for yourself:

So, they had a four way?

Dude was a head case. Had some rough times which eventually led to him suck-starting a shotgun.

They definitely had a lifespan shorter than an 85 year old licking door knobs for a living these days.

Those extra toe felines run that place. There's a story I heard once that the extra toed cats were used on wooden ships because they could grip better in rough seas.

They used to beg people to take the damn cats, now they are protected.
The chickens though, take the damn chickens.

Ernest and Hadley were divorced by January 1927, so there's your answer.

Later on, in A Movable Feast, he blamed it all on Pfeiffer and went on about how happy he and Hadley were and how the bad outsider ruined it for them. But you know he was enjoying the heck out of not only having a side piece, but having her actually living in the house with him while his wife was also living there.
