If this was MCNeese, they'd be all for it. It's just part of the "North Louisiana sucks" attitude on here.

This is true. Some folks just don’t get the appeal of a smaller city.

You need north Louisiana to do well . . . Otherwise you’ll have all the bad element moving down to Lafayette ? Don’t come fishing in our pond!

I highly doubt they would move it to be honest since it's well ran. If anything, they would just start a new one.

No, they wouldn’t. Louisiana does not need more lawyers.

Texas has 10 law schools. The state population is 31.3 million. That means there is 1 law school per every 3.13 million people

Louisiana wants 5 law schools....for a state with 4.6 million people. That would come out to a ratio of 1 law school for every 920k people

Louisiana really has five law school already. Mississippi College in Jackson has a law school that teaches Louisiana Civil Code Law and preps students for the Louisiana Bar Exam. A lot of North La students go to MS College since it is closer to Monroe and Shreveport.

Wasn't ULM trying to establish a medical school?
What happened with that?

It's still there. I think their first class graduates this year or next year.

Urgent Cares

I wonder how these places make money because they have so many of them.

The Our Lady of the Lake had an urgent care on this side of the river (westside. It was in Brusly) years ago and I can't even remember what happened, but it was one of those situations where it was "it would be a good idea to go get it checked out". I remember that because it wasn't anything ER worthy, but the doctor there was some hippy. I remember it was cold that night because he had on some closed toe sandals with socks on and he was out there a little bit.. So my perception of these places is that they all have some whacked out doctor there.

Can't see a law school in Natchitoches making it.

North Louisiana doesn't have the population, economy, or legal job market to warrant a new law school

Pretty sure North LA has 1 of less than 100 US district courts.

I can see a couple of big car accident law firms supporting this. Here in Louisiana car accident lawyers are in high demand with a NEVER ENDING clientele base.

Close Southern and give Tech a law school that specializes in patent law.

Monroe does NOT have a medical school. Not sure what made you think that. Shreveport is only medical school north of I-10 in Louisiana.
Why not just say only medical school along I-20

What if instead of a full blown law school, you start a law program that can partner with state and local law enforcement and offer training and classes for these bumblefricks who are out on the streets costing taxpayer money screwing up the enforcement and interpretation of the laws. I think that could be a money maker for the school.

Tech would be better suited for a law school.

LINK

ULM has a College of Osteopathic Medicine operating on its campus. It appears to be an association with another school. I do not know what they teach, or what Osteopathic Medicine means, but it is a pretty big deal at ULM from all reports. Pretty impressive building for the school.

I’d say it is a quasi medical school just to offend those in a formal medical school

If you count LSUA, the northern half of the state has 6 public 4 year universities. That's way too many for an area of the state that only has a third of the state's population.
I haven't run the numbers recently, but according to the census data in like 2018 (so from the 2014 intermediate update), the central and northern parts of the state had roughly 22% of the population. Closer to a fifth than a fourth, let alone a third.

I can't imagine it's increased much in the past ten years.

This is kind of off topic, but what do people mean when they say "you will need a Philadelphia lawyer to get you out of that one"? My mom used to say it and I never really knew why.
