Let's let her waltz back to North Korea then and stop living in America if its so crazy. She won't. Is America crazy absolutely, but to compare using pronouns to a dictator starving and turning his own citizens into slave labor is just ridiculous

Now we are in a period where that will have to be reversed if we ever want the people to regain control of this country. Like I said, her opinion confirms conservative biases so you all will suspend much critical thought on it.

Biases? It observes reality. Objective reality confirmed by countless experiences by people of all stripes. Objective reality confirmed by donation records and self-admitted political preferences and video evidence and the writings of the academics themselves spelling out their radicalism and insanity in print for you and I to read.

"Confirms conservative biases" - give me a fricking break spleen

We can argue over whether or not her statement is hyperbolic or lacks credibility, but beginning with this chickenshit premise should be beneath you.

For a seemingly smart girl that is a pretty shite opinion. Maybe she should've picked a better school.

Let me know when you have to trek the Gobi desert to escape america

You know this board has gone full retard when i get a downvote for saying America isn't as bad as North korea

Gonna go out on a wild hair and assume that:

A) You didn't even bother reading the article; or,

B) You are the exact kind of liberal she's talking about.

Another lacking reading comprehension.

She is talking about what is being taught at Columbia.

And most of our other colleges as well.

She loves America and is not saying that this country is worse than NK.

Try reading versus reacting.

My point was she doesn't have to resort to such hyperbole to make her point. I can recognize the absurdity of the professor's criticism of Jane Austen's work without accusing that professor of being nuttier than the NK regime. It's as bad as the nutjub lefties calling Trump "LITERALLY HITLER!!"

Maybe the point is that NK is obvious about their oppression, and people know they are oppressed and freedom is taken away, whereas here it's subversive, people don't understand their freedoms are taking away and they get their neighbors to oppress each other with little use of force.

THAT would be a concept more dangerous than obvious oppression.

I don't fit in with either side in the modern political landscape. I will stand up for our country rather than let the vocal minority on both sides claim that the country is much worse off than it actually is.

The problem isn't that most Americans act like what she's describing. The problem is that Academia has become exactly what she describes, and then some. The trash that current Academia churns out doesn't make itself known until years down the line, before it's (possibly?) too late to reverse.

Buddy is dating a girl who left Venezuela with her family. Her parents owned a large manufacturing facility and they quite literally packed up a suitcase each and snuck out of the country in the middle of the night leaving everything behind. She scares the shite out of me when she says that what we are seeing right now in the US is how it all started there.

You mean corporatism. Capitalism’s roots are found in small businesses across this country, and if you want to see capitalism flourish, then you have to nourish and cultivate it on the small business level, and we’ve done anything but that. We’ve watched as it withered on the vine over the past year or so. If you love capitalism, then you’ll oppose all that which sticks it to small business.

While I'm not ready to proclaim American academia is as insane as NK, I would like to propose the following -

In most of the world, the idea of your gender (or worse, sex) being malleable is insane and entirely beyond the scope of what is reasonable. Telling people who do so that they're normal, and then telling everyone else in society to not only accept the change but to go along with it and not question it (or be deemed a hateful bigot) is very likely inconceivable. And then to go further, and say we should not only do those things but present them as valid options, even to young children, is so far out of the universe of acceptable thought that it would be deemed evil, terroristic, etc.

So for Americans, who've been exposed to enough of this insanity that it ranges from totally normal and great to crazy but not earth-shattering, comparing this shite to NK seems odd. But in the nutty idea hierarchy, is that less insane than the ideas behind the NK regime to outsiders? I'm not really sure honestly. Is it more or less crazy than the idea that if you're martyred for some regressive faith you'll get a reward of virgins?

Someone will go "yeah but Kim drops bombs on dissidents" and I'm not really talking about actions, I'm talking about ideas. I would certainly concede that NK is a nuttier place than America, that the oppressive actions in NK are not in any way comparable to actions within American academia, etc.

The point is that America is taking a leadership role in producing and exporting some of the most batshit bad ideas the world has ever known. And it's happening right this second primarily at top schools, companies and in the halls of US government.

healthy capitalism needs healthy small business, but capitalism doesn't differentiate between small business and large business, it is simply "an economic and political system in which a country's trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state."

it started a LONG time before covid hit. what happened in the past year was a result of all of our politicians already being owned by the corporations.

The leaps you guys will go through to excuse radicalism in academia is hilarious

She literally escaped NK, arrived at Columbia and was told her fondness for classical literature was problematic because of colonialism

And it's disingenuously posited like "these conservatives won't even defend America here, how crazy is that." When the truth is you're not defending America, you're defending the nutjobbery you're imposing on America.

Make no mistake, the next time one of your own (which will be today) talks about America as a brutal oppressive state, you won't say shite. "America is shite" is the core tenet of your party's ideology, FFS.

Its truly astounding, and that blind delusion/idiocy is the exact reason why I don't really lean left anymore.
