North Carolina mother is accused of trading her child for a car. Alice Leann Todd, 45, was charged with the unlawful sale, surrender, or purchase of a minor after investigators found she gave up her 1-year-old to a couple in exchange for their 1992 Plymouth Laser in 2018, Capt. Brad Saintsing with the Thomasville Police Department said Thursday.

Tina Marie Chavis, 47, and Vicenio Mendoza Romero, 53, who were caring for the child face the same charges.

Police said they opened an investigation when Chavis brought the then-2-year-old child to a hospital in July because she thought the child was suffering from an allergic reaction. Staff at the hospital noticed the toddler had bruises and contacted child protective services and police.

When questioned, Chavis originally claimed to be the child's biological mother, later saying she was the child's adoptive mother, police said. But she couldn't produce any documentation.

Investigators eventually discovered the child had been swapped for the vehicle the year before.

Todd, Chavis and Romero are all being held on $50,000 bonds at the Davidson County Jail, about 60 miles north of Charlotte. They are due in court on Oct. 21.

For all the posters that say children are amazing, they’re equivalent to a 1992 Plymouth Laser.

God, one day that kid is going to find out that it’s biological mother traded it for a 27 year old piece of shite car and that poor kid is going to have self-esteem issues for the rest of it’s life.

Egads man. Though looking at that gene pool, I'm sure their offspring is headed for a heavy diet of Mountain Dew, Little Debbie's, Doritos, cigarettes, EBT and meth. I'd say the traded kid would be better off... but if someone had a 1992 Plymouth Laser in their possession to trade, I'm not so sure.

"That's a sweet ride. What will you take for her?"

"$5,000"

"I don't have that. How about a trade?"

"What you got to trade?"

"This low mileage toddler. Barely a year old. Gotta warn you, he's a crier, though."

"I dunno. Have to ask the Misses. BRB. OK, She said if you throw in some diapers, you got yourself a new car."

But for real though..

Growing up in the 2020s, knowing you got traded for a '92 Plymouth Laser..

Given that, had the car been a Suzuki Esteem I'd have laughed about it.
