I'd bet the prevalence of bad pockets all over leads to a lot of crime. Most big cities have a giant bad neighborhood or three.

I've never noticed that camera. Underneath the Bienville street sign. Was asking if that's a new installation

One of the BIG issues right now in the city is criminals getting off with a slap on the wrist

An hour ago you were arguing that laws were made up to keep the jail full. Now you're saying we aren't keeping criminals long enough.

Well what is it?

Mitch the bitches 3 year hiring freeze had zero to do with it.

He was given $40 million by the feds. He could've used that to hire cops.

Mitch the Bitch. Funneling funds to family and friends since he took office.

So say you're twice as likely to get bit by a shark on the Florida panhandle than the east coast, but it's still highly highly unlikely, you should still choose the safest bet although the destination may not be as appealing..... I mean target is a mile past Walmart, and that would be an extra mile you are driving and could get in a head on collision. Maybe highly unlikely, but best to take the safe bet and shop at WM.

There's so much stupid in this post I don't even know where to begin.

Why should I care any more for this than what happens in the trap ?

You shouldn't.

You certainly don't care when blacks kill each other. Only when they're shot by the cops.

Within the last year, they were a part of a crime initiative that involved buying 100 new camera reading vans

Yeah I think you that is fairly new. I've walked that block over 1000 times in the last several years and haven't noticed it.

12 pages of people who never were coming (or have never been) to NO claiming that now they arent coming to NO. Bizarre.

I've been a lot, hell I've lived in NOLA, and I'm not going back for a while. Your city sucks and it's full of crime, race baiters, culcha, and potholes

sorry I didn't specify.... we need to not make criminals out of everyone....but ANY violent offense needs to be dealt with roughly.... I'd advocate for 20 years no parole for illegal handguns. Life w/o for armed robbery and such

I used to be the biggest booster of New Orleans that you could find. I always had my talking points ready whenever someone mentioned the crime, lack of white-collar jobs, poor infrastructure, bad schools, etc. I can no longer defend it. The city had a chance to reform itself following Katrina, but it has blown the opportunity, and is probably past the tipping point. Take the usual ingredients of corrupt politicians and citizens too willing to accept the status quo, mix in transplants who have no idea what New Orleans really is, and you have the dumpster fire that New Orleans is.

This was one my ex-NOPD friend's biggest gripes with the local judicial system. He said those caught with illegal firearms were either given a slap on the wrist are not prosecuted at all.

What happened to that being a federal crime?

Early 2000s weren't there signs everywhere warning illegal guns got you sent to an out of state federal prison?

Lol that will never happen. You make more $$ keeping people out of jail

Guy who carjacked me got 6 years. It was his 3rd armed robbery among about 15 other crimes on his sheet. I doubt he even did 6 years either

Quick search of the Google shows that the US Atty said they would step up prosecution of illegal gun crimes.

Seems like a spot that NOPD MAY be able to apply more resources.

Things like this are ideas that I think would actually work here. Would love to hear one of the characters running for mayor bring ideas like this.

Hard to be enraged with a gun in your face. It was more of a here are my wallet and keys and don't shoot me in my face

I was mad afterwards but relieved also that I wasn't hurt and he didn't destroy my car
