Let's just get rid of the entire honorific. We waste enough time arguing this monthly on here alone to justify the change.

You’re on a plane and start feeling bad, have intense abdominal pain, and pass out. Your wife/husband/significant other calls the stewardess over and she makes an announcement over the PA, “Is there a doctor on board?”
And what the frick you think the "doctor" is going to do? fricker isn't MacGyver.

Well, the "doctor" with medical training is probably a lot more helpful than MacGyver or a PhD.
I watched a "doctor" save a man's life at a restaurant. Took control of a situation and kept him alive until the ambulance got there.

I was making a general statement, not directed directly at you and your feels. At least you people can get married now.

Ph.D’s are a dime a dozen. Only M.D.’s should be allowed to call themselves “doctor”.
You may find the following interesting. Highly educated, persons were referred to as doctor while the "medical profession" of the time were still cutting hair and letting blood.
Yes, I have a dog in this fight; I have a doctorate in chemistry and engineering from The University of Alabama (1974). However, the bit about who were the first users of the term doctor, and who are the "Jhonny come lately's" is factual.
