It depends on what is deemed an essential business. You can look to what’s been done in Europe to get an idea of what they will entail.
Basically emergency services, grocery stores, pharmacies, utilities, certain manufacturing jobs, and anything remotely related to medical science and researching.
As to whether or not they’ll actually do it...idk depends on what info they’re getting from the hospitals. NOLA likely leads the country in per capita cases. Mardi Gras and cruises just killed us. So our reaction should one of the most intense in the country

This virus was more than likely already widespread in the U.S before given the name coronavirus. There will always be viruses spreading rampantly through our country especially during winter and early spring. No reason for all of this. We gonna start shutting down the country every winter now?

But if it is, and it seems like it is, the problem is hospitals and ICU’s, and the amount of doctors and nurses, are designed to operate at near 100% capacity. Which makes sense, why would you employ people and have real estate and equipment that decades of data says is unnecessary?
Well now out of nowhere you have a completely novel disease that ups the number of people needed icu care by up to 100% in some cases. It’s the complete novelty that’s causing this. There’s no vaccine for it, no immunity to it, and the healthcare system is completely unprepared for the added numbers it brings. Until we get one of those three things, we either have to mitigate the spread or be ready for casualties we haven’t seen since the Spanish flu.
Also this thing has been in the US since mid January. New Orleans since early February. But not widespread. What makes it so brutal is the amount of time you have it and are contagious without really showing anything.

I’m Still blown away at the amount of folks that are begging the govmnt to just shut everything down. Baffling to me. The chaos from that will be much worse than the “virus” itself.

I work fire/ems and our department runs the ambulance service. Our hospitals aren't anymore impacted than they were 2 months ago.

There's many different viruses out there we don't have vaccines for, they all have long arse names but unless you study them most of us don't know much about them. "flu like virus" is an example of random viruses that when you test negative from the flu the doctor tells you is what you have. You go home and wait it out till you feel better. I've had a virus before that put me down for almost 2 weeks in the past, I've also had them only put me down for a couple days. Even the Type A and B flu changes every year which is why getting the correct vaccine is difficult and doesn't always work.

This is what I've been told by a couple doctors albeit they haven't treated a confirmed Corona yet. The doctors that have treated them are saying the symptoms people who have tested positive are all the same that we've been seeing since the beginning of the year, many are thinking this has already been widespread. In reality the mortality rate is much much lower than even 1.9% where it currently stands.
ETA: Again, we don't need to start "shutting down" the country every damn winter over a virus.

Newsflash: there is no constitutional right to fly on a commercial airplane or for a business to operate. Nearly everything commercial falls under the Commerce Clause for the federal government to regulate or the sweeping general police powers of the individual states to regulate on a local level.
I get there are a lot of you meatheads out there that think you can physical fight a virus with your fists and that everyone else is a 'pussy,' but the reality is precautions like this are a smart idea to halt the spread and people like you are just posturing morons. 100,000 posts on a message forum tells me the ONLY place a guy like you can posture is over the internet... so a lockdown should be a blessing in disguise to you. You're the Marvin Hagler of the keyboard, buddy!
