Having a discussion about the land value spike in and around the city. I'm really just curious about the general population of Lakeview before Katrina. Was it a nice place to live? Up and coming or old and rundown? Thanks folks

It was filled with a lot less pretentious assholes who live pay check to pay check but think they have money.

A good area but often dated or very dated. Probably my favorite area.

That's what I was referring too. Old Lakeview had much better people in my opinion. Now the people out there are snobby and think they are uptown rich.

Like my brother in law He bought there last year for an insane amount of money. Y mother in law was arguing that it was always what it is now. I don't know much about that area but was sure that I'd heard a time or two that it wasn't a very desirable place to live.

The streets were always third world.
There was crime, particularly theft.
Otherwise a pleasant place.

A lot of older, smaller houses instead of shoddy McMansions

Back then two of your kids could swim in the pothole in front of your house. Now it's become the community pool.

A lot of older people who had raised their families there and were retired. It was quiet.

I remember it being as over priced if not more than now.
The thing was, back then you still had old people living there. They are gone now and their houses are gone too.
It is what it is. Supply and demand rules the world.

The pretentious comment is smack on. Many of the younger folks who live there think it is some exclusive community. In reality, it's many new construction homes. Many built next to rentals and duplexes. The majority of the new construction is cheap and with poor craftsmanship. The lots are mostly small. Undrivable streets with cars parked everywhere as drive ways and garages are all but non existent.

It's an Orleans address carrying all of the negatives that an Orleans address brings with almost zero of the perks of living in Orleans. Smart money would have built in Metairie, but then again...Metairie didn't offer $40k lots. ultimately, lake view is made up of young people who couldn't afford to build in Metairie a few years ago.

It was a nice area. In terms of violent crime, it was one of the safer areas in the city.
