The City is under an EPA Consent Decree for failing to do sewer rehabilitation and the Mayor can be put in jail if it’s violated.

If they were doing it outside of an emergency declaration the city would be fined as well.

Still may very well be fined.

There are laws that allow these types of excursions when there is no viable alternative.

BR was under one for decades. Not sure if they still are after the latest plan to go private because they were in violation so much.

This might be a time I’m cheering on some frickups at the sewage and water board to break things and not fix it

I made this meme 6 months ago and it fits this topic perfectly. It's almost like I saw it coming.

Had a black pastor's wife defending her Saturday, saying she prays for the city every Tuesday.

I just imagine a private company doing the exact same thing.

Then I imagine a private company owned by a republican doing the exact same thing

The escalations are incredible

Lowers plaquemines has had saltwater in its tap water all summer now. We get water from firestation. Looking to change hot water heater for the 3rd time in the next couple weeks

That must suck. My grandfather lived in Venice. It has been almost 30 years since I have traveled down there. I used to like walking up and playing by the levee.

We had a similar issue with salt water in Bayou Lafourche back in the summer of 2000 and maybe once or twice since.

They built a water control structure first in the Company Canal in Lockport and then moved it to just south of the Water Treatment plant in Lockport in Bayou Lafourche. The problem hasn’t resurfaced again, but I wonder what would happen if there is a pump failure in Donaldsonville or a chemical spill that would lead to an extended closure of those pumps.

I know with the river they just can’t build a gate to stop the saltwater, but how deep are the intakes for the water treatment plant down there. You would think they would truly to suck more water closer to the surface where the water is fresher. Unless the saltwater is that high all the way down there.

I also heard they are trying to boost the Belle Chasse plant to get enough water out of it to pump it down the parish making the Venice plant a backup or redundant.

Talking to Lower Plaq people it is a failure of government more than some insurmountable problem.

They had the money to solve it, but spent it elsewhere.
