You build new statues and monuments. You never dismantle them to make a political statement....which is exactly what is going on here.
I honestly expected more out of New Orleans. I thought the people there were more logical and level headed.

Oh and don't believe all this talk about needing federal approvals before anything happens, Mitch is saying screw that. Barring a court order those statues may be down before the Saints kickoff against the Lions Monday night.

I would expect an emergency injunction coming soon. Then it goes to court...
Even if Mitch does pull them down tonight, the court may well order him to put it back up. That would be really funny.

First, I'm not a lawyer, this is all layman's municipal governmental experience.
I think it depends where and who files suit, if its in Civil District Court not sure anyone there will give an injunction to stop removal. Federal Court may be another issue, if there is a justification for a federal court filing.

You realize this wasn't some public vote right? Had it gone to a vote, the statues would have stayed. The City Council decided this.

Ya'll are ridiculous. Nola can finally move on and become a crime-free utopia. No more mass shootings at rap video filmings, no more drug related crime in the 9th and 7th wards, no more senseless raping, robbing, and violence.

This was almost an Obama-like Executive Order. This sets a terrible precedent for the city and the country. Where does it end? Washington Monument offends a set of people? The Jefferson Memorial? How about Jackson Square? Jackson almost exterminated the entire Native-American population of the Southeast and also owned slaves.
