I think he is saying Uber won't have enough cars to help the city if the cabbies went on strike.
The cabbies can't afford to go on strike. They could for maybe one day. But the cabs won't see a loss of business overnight. It'll be a slow gradual decline that will either a) force them to make changes for the better or b) go out of business.

I promise you there will be no shortage of black car drivers and uber x drivers dying to sign up.

I like it how they kept trying to catch Uber in this gotcha moment about wanting to bring all of their services to Nola. Of course they want to bring EVERYTHING they offer to Nola. That goes with any business in the world!

How are you not getting this. Uber drivers aren't cab drivers. They are normal people who want to earn some money using their personal vehicle and can pass a background check. Uber does not contract cabs. If the cab drivers organized a strike, more people would simply sign up to be Uber drivers since there would be a goldrush. The market would see that Uber provides a much better service, and half the cab drivers on strike wouldn't have a job when they came back.

That's what I told him. We've been arguing via txt
The first Uber Craigslist post would have 100 applicants overnight.

Soph thinks that the free market is incapable of getting themselves clean water. We'll all be fighting over each other's piss if not for dear government.

I just traded 2 dozen pallets for 2 dozen eggs with a guy from the northshore via Craigslist. It's a great tool.
So anybody with a car can become a cab driver just by responding to a Craigslist ad and passing a backround check ?

Do cab companies have stricter rules?
Have you ever gotten into a vehicle with someone driving that you haven't done a background check on?
Uber has a rating system that can potentially kick drivers out of the program. Last I checked, cab companies did not.
You're acting like Uber has a bunch of criminals or retards driving for them. Fedgov is already doing most of the work when it comes to whether someone is capable of driving a vehicle.

A strange hipster picks you up in their personal vehicle using some nerd app.

Hmmm. I'll stick with Achmed.

As a professional cab driver it worries me that anyone can become a cab driver via a CL ad.

No you are thinking of lyft. Uber actually started out with the black car service and has gradually expanded. It's okay to come out of the woods every once in a while. Change can be a good thing.

So, a hipster in a black sedan/SUV?
Great.
Great.

Jesus Christ man. Please do some research.

In short, yes, but it's still applying for a job. They have to have certain documentation just like a cab driver would, and it may even be more rigorous than your avg nola cab company. The entire system is based on feedback. If someone complains about the driver it's immediately reported to Uber and they can choose to kick the driver out of the app.

Uber regularly reviews all customer ratings and driver feedback to ensure that we allow high quality, highly rated transportation providers and drivers to use our app and receive requests from riders. We actively seek feedback on every ride, and take this feedback very seriously when evaluating our driver partnerships.

Yea, when that lunatic Uber hipster gets stoned and passes out and you fashion a makeshift key out of you thumbnails and escape your dungeon.
