If you work for a company who sets salaries below market value, we should be laughing at you.

Or c) your employer never cared in the first place and was knowingly exploiting your lack of experience and information.

I own an insurance agency, we also do mortgage origination as well as investment planning services. Hated by the OT I know, but it’s allowed me the financial freedom to create the culture I want in my office which has allowed us to be extremely successful.
I have a team of 5, hoping to get to 8-10 by the end of 2022. We write a lot of commercial insurance, which provides exposure to alot of different industries. For a lot of small businesses, the premise of the OP is very real.

This is exactly what is driving reluctance to give up WFH. In 2+ years of never going to the office I have never taken a sick day, only take vacations in weekly buckets, and get everything done I need to do and still do the same amount of work as before. Or more. Instead of listening to Bob tell me about his fishing trip, I run a load of laundry or do the dishes. Instead of sitting in the cafeteria or surfing the internet at my desk during lunch, I can run errands or go to the dentist.

Those companies usually fizzle out or stagnate. They eventually land on employees with little motivation or few alternative options.
Nobody who runs a good company spends time and effort trying to frick over their good employees.

That's kind of our point. There aren't very many good companies.

I felt valued, productive, and never got sick of being at work. If someone offered me a job working 4 10's, and only 4 10's, that paid me enough to survive, I would take it. It could be the shittiest job in the world, and I would gladly take it and work it every goddamn day for the rest of my working life because that schedule just works so well.
All this. I had this work schedule one time in my life and loved it. I left it like a true dumbass for more money. I walked into work every Monday feeling recharged and ready to go. If I had to do it all over again I would of never left.

There's like ~200 million working aged people in the country and there aren't anywhere close to 200 million decent jobs. Probably less than half of that number.
Define “decent”…I think an immigrant would consider $10/hour decent. Problem is, there’s millions of lazy Americans who would rather do nothing and get paid the equivalent of $12/hour by Uncle Sam

Every company that is growing (rev and head count) likely treats their employees the right way, at least to enough people. I won't list companies because that's absurd, but there's something for you to search if you care.
Eta
The ones will little turnover as well, though that's harder data to find.

A lot of the most successful companies of all time are famous for this.
Churn and burn. Up or out.
It obviously works for those companies. They are almost unfathomably successful. But let's not pretend they aren't a shite place to spend your career for 99% of their employees.

20,000 per year gross is not a decent job in the year 2022.

I never would have left it had I been given the choice. 4 10's was temporary, and quickly we went to 5 10's, then 6 10's, then 6 12's, then 13 14's. It was madness.

As an employer, I’m much more inclined to reward my employees that occasionally go above and beyond vs checking out at 5. There’s nothing wrong with that and I’m not punishing you for it, but that goes back to my original point. I’m not inclined to give you a huge raise and bonuses just because you do what’s the bare minimum.
But you are in insurance and your employees have incentive to work more. The more policies they get, the more money they make.

Well let's get them to cater to the people who don't feel the love. Clearly relying on the winners who keep it going is not ideal.
I'm tired. To the lions lurking this thread, kick arse at these companies or wherever you are and don't sweat the lambs.

I’m not talking about commission. All of my employees are salaried plus commission.
