not much a free thinker in this thread, Rog

kinda disappointing

I feel like you are on the verge of agreeing with me to some extent, but you just can't allow yourself to do it

I think you're just hung up on the idea that free will doesn't exist. You can't conceive anything beyond pre determined circumstance

This literally counters your point...

I'm more hung up on the idea of what drives our decisions

and every time I ask myself or others what drove us to decisions, it is ultimately things that we didn't have a choice in, whether it be out DNA, our environment, chance encounters, etc

sure I can

if you haven't noticed, I have yet to call your point of view wrong or false or anything of the sort

I tend to agree.

What determines how much we allow our very first circumstance or outside influence affect us? We've got to start from somewhere, but that source is out of our control.

Sure. But that source doesn't determine which directions we decide to go. Not always at least.

No one disputes we build on experience.

right

everyone can go to a certain percentage, but people have a real hard time going all the way

I don't get it

That is due to hyperfocustensionalism.

Again, this depends on how you define success.

It's been theorized that most world changers were on the spectrum and able to see things in a very different perspective than anyone else

I don't always define success materially btw:

I'm a pretty firm believer that you don't just wake up one day and decide to change your life without some external factor(s) AND some internal factor that was always there. I also believe those internal factors are a product of our previous decisions/experiences, and those all started from a source we didn't control in the first place - whatever innate compass we had from the get go.

This is why I asked how you could even go about disproving determinism/fatalism/whateverism - those theories suggest every decision you make is determined by your previous decisions. That doesn't seem mutually exclusive to what you're suggesting.

Yeah. Probably. Makes sense.

Elon Musk would be a perfect example.

Probably splitting hairs but I've definitely seen and personally experienced it.

Determinism is pretty specific.

Also free will doesn't exclude past experience or starting point

It's bullshite of course.

As someone said luck is opportunity meets preparation.

Sometimes opportunity is easier to come by for others some people have to prepare more to make something of an opportunity.

But it's up to the person to be ready for or create the opportunity.

Just as much as it's on the person to prepare.

So the balance is on the person. Even if coasting on a trust fund it's possible to lose it.

It's true

The essential question is "where are you going from here?"

I didn't say we shouldn't study it, I'm saying there's a solid biological argument why people tend to ignore/avoid/disagree with the arguments.
