Know how I know this person has never tried to drive from BR to New Orleans after work on a Friday?

It is so obvious that you really have to question the intelligence of any one that would consider such expenditures.

I don't think JBE is too bright.

A private company would have built this already if it were going to be profitable. Remember that Amtrak is not profitable outside it's Acela line in the Northeast.

To be fair, JBE didn't float this idea to begin with.

I think it came from big spenders in NO and BR first.

You seem to be saying that sometimes the government takes on projects that lose money? You are so young and naïve...

Do you even know about politics?

And until cities can't keep the crime rates down to acceptable levels, white people will continue to move out of the urban areas where the public transportation serves.

It did but he is the one giving it consideration.

The proponents are probably greasing his campaign fund.

Nashville's line is bleeding cash and has a lot more population involved and is a lot shorter in length.

But then we would build another one!
And it would.... sink.... into the swamp.

Let's hope he reads the Advocate.

This is a big test, IMHO.

Uh, Chicago's crime rate isn't great, and they seem to have good mass transit. I hope I just missed your point.

The hotel that we always stay at when we go to New Orleans charges $40 per night for garage parking. That's the only thing I hate about driving from BR to NO.

i literally go nowhere after i'm at work unless there's something the SO wants me to do.

lunch is at my desk or in my building or on rare occasions i'll go with co-workers out somewhere but i would LOVE to ditch my car for a less expensive alternative.

then i could blow TD up all the way to work.

eta who am i kidding, i reply to TD all the way in and out every day now

This nonsense is based on nothing more than some environmental concerns and the "wouldn't it be so cool and 21st century-like to have a bullet train! We wouldn't need our cars, dude!" impulse.

And meanwhile, the train would never be used to capacity, just like CATS is never used to capacity, and most people would take their cars anyway.

So paying 44 dollars a trip to ride the train would be "fair" right?

But the powers that be are touting something like an 13 dollar ride to make things seem better.
