No money for passenger train to link BR and NO

After floating the idea of a passenger train to connect NO and BR, hiring, designers and consultants, we learn the state has no funds for the project.
Quote:
A passenger rail between Baton Rouge and New Orleans is expected to cost some $260 million, most of which will likely have to come from federal funding, officials say.
Although the Federal Railroad Administration in July announced $318 million in grant funding through its CRISI program for 2018, Louisiana currently doesn’t have money available to meet a 50% match to make the effort worthwhile, Clark says. END of Quote
I remember when the Feds were going to pay for almost all of it, or so proponents said. Now "most" is 50%.

Imagine that. This genius idea comes up about every 7-10 years with the same result.

The feds offered to build the thing themselves after Katrina but Jindal said after he was elected it would be too expensive for the state to operate.
frick that guy.

banking on just getting beamed from one place to another.

While I approve of a rail system between the two cities, this plan was a bad idea anyhow. No one wants a train between here in and New Orleans with seven stops, that takes two and a half hours to get there.

how long were you oxygen deprived as a fetus?
Jindal may not have done a lot of things right, but he got it right on this. This whole passenger train idea is a fricking joke. A wasteful, unaffordable, unsustainable joke. Only a retard or a person who stands to financially benefit from it would think otherwise.

Who would really want to take a 2+ hr trip to NO on a train?
Besides that, BR has no good public transit to take advantage of it.
