im not saying you need to feel bad for them. I certainly don't. I'm saying the thing that separates us from them is civility and once we go all eye for an eye, we lose that and are no better than people in India who cut off the hands of thieves

Giving everyone due process and considering them innocent until proven guilty isn't effectively saying "we're better than what your presumed actions have shown you to be"?

It's not like they are chained in the middle of a field with no shade. They are in a cinder block building with fans blowing. Hell I grew up with my parents being very conservative with the use of the a/c. You ever slept in a house with just an attic fan? If I could do it as a child I am sure these big bad murderes will be just fine.

I know this Death Row suit gets all the pub, but to the best of my knowledge none of the cells or dorms are air conditioned. It's not like Death Row inmates have hotter conditions than the inmates in the regular cell blocks etc.
I do believe infirmary areas have AC as do areas for the free population.

This isn't eye for an eye. None of them are being murdered in the same fashion that they murdered other people. They are simply not living life as comfortable as free people and they shouldn't considering they are incarcerated for such heinous crimes.
At some point, prison has to also serve as a deterrent to other potential criminals and giving them A/C doesn't exactly fall in line with that. Them being miserable in a little heat does though.

This was the 80s and early 90s. How many of those inmatea have died from the heat or even gotten heat stroke? I would bet none.

I'm fine with level three prisoners getting it rough like this, but it does suck for the 1-2 people exonerated from death row every year or so (I know numbers are off, it just seems that way lately)
When I went to LSU, my dorm room had no heat or AC (Johnston hall). They can deal with it IMO.

You're talking about pre-conviction rights and safeguards is so far out of the realm of what we're talking about that your "point" is irrelevant. i didn't say it was murder in the exact same fashion. Someone kills someone then we kill them. That's literally a life for a life.
I could see your deterrent argument if that was their intention, but that doesn't seem likely. No one on death row is getting out so its not like you're making these guys never want to go back to prison. You're just slowly torturing them before frying them.

Good point. I'm sure people that plan to murder people will be swayed depending on if Angola has A/C or not.
