Nitrogen shortage

Plant some beans and they will pull nitrogen out of the air for you.

We can’t start up because of no N supply from AL

All the LA plants bitch and moan about AL being the only game in town for pipeline N2. If they really cared about having another supplier, a number of plants need to agree to bite the bullet and agree to pay a slightly higher N2 cost to allow for another company's investment into the region. Air Liquide holds the monopoly because their system has gotten so large that they destroy any new source on price. If a few plants banded together and approached Air Products or Linde to start building out a network, N2 pricing and reliability would get a lot more competitive in LA.

Who wouldve also been out of power.

Incorrect, plenty of plants in Baton Rouge down to Geismar have power right now but cannot start up because they don't have N2.

Is AP broke? Quit waiting on welfare and invest. Exxon didn’t wait for customers to invest in oil, they brought it to them and created market.

Dude really? Y’all can’t parlay your H business into N. Use some of the take or pay funds to build first hundred miles of pipeline. “Build it and they will come”

Unfortunately it doesn't work like that

I know there have been multiple bids in the past 5 years for new pipeline N2 and O2. Every single one, AL destroys the competition on price. Then next time the contract is up, they know they are the only ballgame in town so prices get jacked.

You need an anchor customer to build a plant. Can't just build in a random location and then hope plants nearby will use you. Pipeline contracts are 15 years and running a pipe to a customer is ~$3 million per mile on top of the ~$50 million plant investment. If a couple companies wanted to be the guinea pigs to allow for the beginning of the network to start, I'm sure Linde, Air Products, or Matheson would be all ears.

Nitrogen generators aren't large enough to supply many of these plants along the Miss River

I believe airliner tires are also filled with nitrogen.

Force majeur wouldn’t allow them to change their contractual agreement. It just wouldn’t allowed them to be held account for plant production loses due to not meeting their end of the contract.

Saw a semi truck with some name like Nitrogen Solutions headed east on I10 over the Bonne Carre. The trailer he was pulling looked like an Airbus Beluga compared to other trailers. Had to have some capacity.

Anyone get a number on how much refining capacity has been lost? Have to figure 2MM bbls or more.

Not to fully operate long term, but start up enough to wait for pipeline.

Air Gas issued force majeure for liquid N2 in SE USA due to lack of trucks; trucks are being used for Oxygen for hospitals
Driver shortage is further complicating deliveries of liquid N2

This is the correct answer. We were having problems getting N2 in Hattiesburg before the Hurricane. Hospitals take presidency.
