Put it this way
I had a chance to move into Oil/Gas offshore 30 on 30 off making 3 times my salary but would miss all of my son's sports, Christmas, etc etc etc
Don't put money before time with your family

What does this have to do with working nights? I rather work nights because the bullshite is less, which pisses me off less, which no doubt changes me demeanor at home.
The money, at least for me, is insignificant from nights to days.

technically you would miss exactly half of your son's sports, christmas, etc etc etc

Less traffic AND less time with the family? Win-Win

Do any of them have husbands that work nights as well? Curious because this is going to be a huge issue when/if the wife has a kid. Neither of us want to give up nights.
Nah, their husbands all work day jobs.

My gf works a 8-4 pm Mon-Fri. I wouldn't tell her but I like it. I don't want to be stuck up someone's arse 24/7 nor do I want her stuck up mine.
I like my alone time.![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

I routinely state that having the same days off ruins my off days.

Night shift screws up metabolism and can made you more prone to certain diseases.

The key to a healthy marriage for me and my husband....,is opposite schedules. We both are independent people that thrive on alone time. They offered me a day position at work and my husband told me to tell my manager no thanks...that I value my marriage

Stress, cholesterol, meteors, and drivers on the road when I am running are all things I worry about more than nightshift and sleeping.

I think some people thrive more on nights. It's not for everyone but for some....it's a perfect fit.

I wish I could do straight nights. They swap us and that really sucks. I get my best sleep coming off a night shift. I can hit 8hrs without ever moving.
I think the wife is finally getting used to the schedule.

10 hour shift
i much rather 10 hour shifts... if i had to commute in BR at 5pm everyday, i'd kill someone with an ice pick or something...
as of last week, i don't commute to BR at all anymore... got moved to a store in Gonzales, which isn't far from home now... pretty nice being like 15 minutes away, instead of 30-45.... but i will miss my old store... a lot....

I think I am going to do it. Days off during the week are something I miss.

Those are the best imo. Can make your doctor/dentist appts for those days. Do shopping those days instead of evenings or the weekends. Clean house those days so you aren't stuck doing that on your weekends off. Work out at the gym during the day. Randomly go off someplace fun for the day knowing everyone else is at work. I LOVE when I have full days off during the week(as a former night shifter...you know what I mean by "full"...not having to work the night before).

Wish night shift existed in my line of work
I switched from working at the bar/casino until 2am-5am to this 7:30am-5pm job 8 months ago and I STILL am not used to it.
Last night was Saturday night.. I was in bed asleep by 9pm because I couldn't hang in there long enough to even spend time with Jones. Sucks.
