Because I sense it's a pattern of behavior. As an earlier poster said, if anything she should have been bringing him a gift since she was the one that went to a different place. But he goes over to her house with the gift, offers it, gets rejected, says nothing, and meekly drives off as the new guy drives into the driveway he used to drive into. It suggests that some of this - gifts, rejection, meek acceptance of what she wants - had precedent. And if it was a pattern of behavior, then she obviously lost attraction to him. She didn't want a nice guy, she wanted something else.
