I am stepping up to a 8500-9500 pound boat. I just cant trust my 1500 Silverado to safely pull and stop that. Probably a Siverado 2500 with the gas engine. Hopefully get something 1-2 years old

I have a 2500 with the Duramax diesel and allison transmission. Best investment I have made. I was against getting a diesel but I am pulling a 13k pound fifth wheel camper and needed the torque. Get about 20 mpg also. You will not regret it.

Does it have the start-stop function that Ford has (I cannot stand that). Also does anyone drive a Ford with the Powerboost hybrid engine? Is it good or a POS?

You can shut off the start/stop function.

I drove a power boost from near Nashville to northeast Nebraska and filled up once. Freaking truck got damn near 30 mpg and had a seriously large tank.

I was recently in the market to get a newer vehicle and for over a year I threw around the idea of different manufacturers, models, engine sizes. There were horror stories for every vehicle you can think of on the internet. Eventually my wife told me to just make a damn choice and go get a truck.

Today I come to you as an owner of a brand new POS that I upgraded my old POS for.

I would stay out of the market for now - domestic auto makers might crash pretty soon. That will mean govt bail outs and such and who knows what that will do to prices, warranties, etc.

Toyota is having problems with engines and transmissions.

Garbage engine, so many potential problems and none of them are cheap to fix. Same goes for the mini-PowerStroke.

Pease don’t take offense, but the thought of dropping almost $80K on any kind of vehicle for personal use is really bad. Dont go there, much better options for a lot less.

Don’t let yourself get caught up in the vanity of having the top of the line and newest model just to show off. Vehicles are one of the most ill-conceived purchases that one can make.

Mini power stroke was a disaster.

To change the friken thermostat in one of those engines… you have to lift the body off the frame and then lift the engine slightly out of the frame rails to get room. Who is the head up their arse engineer that designed that garbage?

Are you me? We also just upgraded to a 6.6 turbo diesel 2500 Silverado HD. Pulls a 13k lb. camper like it's not even there. First diesel I have ever owned, and I will never go back to gas.

To OP, if you're hauling something, I strongly recommend a diesel. The torque can't be beat. They're supposed to last forever. Yes, diesel costs more than gas, but we had a Chevy 6.2 V8 and it took premium gas, which is higher than diesel. Also, if you're an OT baller, you can easily get a bigger fuel tank or an auxiliary tank added to increase your tow range. At 10ish mpg towing a boat (or just about anything) it comes in really handy having a bigger tank to not have to stop every 2-300 miles to fuel up. It's not easy to pull into a Circle K towing 30' of boat behind you.

“I don’t need a truck,I want a truck.”

I recently got a Honda Ridgeline Trailsport I really like it Only 5,000 lbs towing capacity which is all I need.
Has the stop-start feature but there is a button to disable it.

I would recommend researching it on Honda website and then go look at one before automatically ruling it out because of some notion that it’s not macho or whatever,

My stepson poo poo’ed the idea of a Honda truck when I told him I was going to get one.He told me people would laugh at me, I told him I didn’t give a shite.Once he looked at it he was impressed actually.

For the record,I’ve had 2 Toyota 4wd’s in the past,’82 and 2010 Tacoma.Don’t need 4wd anymore.
Ridgeline is AWD with normal, mud, sand and snow modes.

This is the thing. They keep increasing the tow rating on the half tons but they aren't making the trucks any heavier. That makes zero sense.

Make the engine whatever you want. And put a 34 speed tranny in it too. Still not going to be able to handle a trailer in a panic situation the same way another ton of iron does.

Maybe it's not as risky here because land is mostly flat but it's largely understood when you get up around 5000 plus lbs of trailer, if you have a choice, a 3/4 ton is much superior.

I saw a pretty nice newer 3/4 ton ford gasser today, was white with black wheels and a mild lift, had an exhaust too. Sounded real good. Nice truck. And I'm a chevy guy.

I'd look hard at 3/4 ton gassers if I was you.

Really surprised by the video rear view hate. Had one in a 19 GMC since I got it in 19. I love it.
