A new river boat has set sail on the Mississippi River, and will soon make routine stops in Baton Rouge.

American Cruise Lines’ American Harmony will take its inaugural cruise on the Mississippi River August 17. The newest ship in the line of 5 modern riverboats holding up to 180 passengers docked in its homeport of New Orleans on July 22 to await its first voyage.

In addition to the American Harmony adding stops in Baton Rouge, the American Queen Steamboat company will add the American Countess to its fleet and make stops in Baton Rouge beginning in 2020.

The American Countess will host up to 246 passengers each cruise. From January to July of 2019, Baton Rouge welcomed over 12,000 visitors and had 63 riverboat stops. The city is projected to welcome just over 100 riverboat stops in throughout the remainder of 2019. Visitors from riverboats spend the one to two days in Baton Rouge visiting museums, attractions, shopping and dining in local restaurants.

Other than old people, who has time to spend 10 or more days on a river cruise?

Ever been there when the American Queen or one of the currently running riverboats docks in BR?

I used to spend a lot of time at the St Francisville Inn before it sold and got way too homo even for me. They would feed the bus trips from the American Queen. It was all old or weird French people.

If it were really a day trip, I'd use that to go to football games.

Most of my working career I got one+ month of vacation annually. I took off for a two week trip at least every year. I was able to travel all over the world and experienced many different cultures. I'm old but there are advantages. Those were the good ole days I assume.

They watched too many Avalon river cruises commercials. Key difference being they travel through towns that maintain the historical accuracy of how they used to look and are surrounded by mountains. This would be on the nasty Mississippi passing through otherwise forgettable topography.

The water is way too blue in the image. Very deceiving.

That thing looks big enough to knock a hole in the ORCS if it crashed into it.
