NOLA

Mayor LaToya says no city is better prepared for a Hurricane than New Orleans.

Hahahaha pretty sure being one rain maker away from total devastation isn’t what I call prepared.

Ok which is it?

S&WB officials said that Turbine 4 "unexpectedly went offline yesterday" and is being inspected in preparation for repairs. It will not be available to help pump out whatever rainfall Zeta generates.
"This means areas that normally flood during heavy rain events could take longer to drain, depending on rain intensity and coverage," the agency said in a news release.

The S&WB noted that it has additional power available in the form of five large diesel generators and a series of frequency changers.

Perhaps they could use the old confederate monuments to construct some sort of dam to keep the water out.

Frequency changers (and/or generators) might not be large enough to handle the power needed to run all the equipment the normal turbine can.

That's what I figured. But if the article calls it out that backup power is available, seems like they should give an idea on how much capacity is available.

A lot of the older S&WB run on 25hz not 50/60hz.

The turbine being discussed is a close to current state of the art General Electric natural gas turbine that drives a 25HZ alternator which is required to power 25HZ pump motors designed in the 1920s by Nicola Tesla for Westinghouse, only in Louisiana!

Run by the man from Milwaukee that gets paid OT because he cannot live solely on his $300,000/year salary plus his pension of hundreds of thousands.
Question is can he spell Tchoupitoulas yet?

No lie
S&WB sent a oil pump turbine to our shop a few years ago. They said they needed it back in a month. It was a 1920’s vintage. Every part was scrapped.
