New Orleans Slave Ship Museum

I'm sure it's been discussed before as it was approved by NO City Council in May, but today is the first I had ever heard of it. How is building this museum any different than removing the "disturbing" statues? History happened, you can't erase it. I don't see how the city can get away with removing the statues and building this $170 million museum.

It's the National Slave Ship Museum. The project was first proposed back in 2001 and again two years ago.
This week, the museum got the stamp of approval from the City Council. Councilmembers passed a resolution on Thursday backing the museum. Tourism leaders say it could be another big draw for an already culturally rich city.
"They want to come into the city, and instead of sitting by a pool and reading a book, they want to get into the history, the culture and the authenticity of our city," said Mark Romig, head of the New Orleans Tourism and Marketing Commission. "It allows people to get into history and understand it better."
The project is a massive undertaking that would include a five-story building with an interactive replica of a slave ship, restaurants and a DNA center.
There hasn't been a time frame given for the museum project. It's also not clear how much of the $170 million has been secured to move the museum forward.

Everything bad is white people's fault. Everything good and cultural is the work of the non-whites.

Slave ships?
Total lack of evolution IMO.

The should put a Reparations Bin out front so all those self-hating white people can pay back their debt to black society. If you feel bad that day about 400 years of oppression you could drop a few bucks in the bin and feel better about yourself.

Can we also get a potato famine museum? That would be neat to learn how a bunch of drunk wife beaters couldn't keep a root healthy.

I thought they were just moving the monuments. Are they going to be destroyed?

Because "they" haven't been told anything about it and or to protest it yet. They can't think for themselves. If so wouldn't you think all of the south and its names, buildings, statues, etc would be protested? They wait until what they are told to do. Researching, reading, and learning about history is not their thing

Be careful you don't get run over by Mayor Mitch at the guilt bucket. I'm sure he will be dropping pocketfuls of money in the bin and reminding the rest of the white people how ashamed they should be for something that went on long before many of us were born.

We need to close Maspero Cafe' given it was once a Slave Exchange enterprise...this stuff is beyond silly and simply fodder for the masses to ease whatever perceived discomfort one may have. I would suggest a one time Reparation payment and put an end to all this foolishness....God knows we have spent enough already and I'm not even considering the lives lost, maimed and families ruined...this stuff has to stop and shame on this who continue to sow the seeds of discontent...greatest nation in the Universe and this is the best some can get behind...God have mercy on our right to ourselves

Seriously? Clearly there is a huge difference between a museum that discusses a history and monuments that aggrandize individuals.
However you feel about the monuments they are very obviously meant to project the individuals in a positive light, whereas a museum should discuss something more objectively.

Under the logic of the monument tyrants the slave museum could be seen in poor taste because it celebrates the folks who sold and transported slaves.
